48 hours...Wink hub recall and free $50 gift card. For all Wink Hub owners affected.

Discount code valid for only 48 hours from now.

wink hubs are down because of a fatal flaw in the hub programming. Restart your wink hub a couple of times and you'll receive an email with a replacement link and coupon code "WESOSORRY" which is valid for 48 hours from today. The coupon code could possibly be used even if you are not a wink hub owner. Someone should try to check out using the code haha

We’re writing with some unfortunate information about your Wink home. Our commitment to delivering the most secure smart home platform possible has had an unintended consequence.

Your Wink Hub is now so secure that it is unable to connect to the Wink Servers. This means that you are no longer able to control your Hub-dependent devices with your Wink app. It also means your schedules and robots will not function.

To cut to the chase: We need your Wink Hub back. We’ll update it and get it back to you within a few days. We’ve done all we can to make the process as simple as possible -- Just click here.

We’re terribly embarrassed by this whole situation. This outage was completely preventable and caused by a security measure that was put in place to protect you and your family. Unfortunately we failed to make an update to a security measure that was expiring, and therefore locked down your Hub’s access to the server.

As part of our response, we’re immediately suspending all sales of Wink Hubs across all retail channels and expect to resume sales within the week.

We are incredibly sorry for the inconvenience caused here. As an apology, we’d like to extend a $50 gift card to Wink.com (Valid only for the next 48 hours on wink.com to make purchases, not redeemable for cash) -- Use code “WESOSORRY” at checkout.

If you would like to talk to a service representative, call us at 844-WINK-APP or find us on Twitter @TheWinkApp.

Sounds like the cert they used on the hub expired and they forgot to renew :/. At least it seems they're trying to make up for it a bit.

Wink Hub has a special right now.

$24.99 for two bulbs and a wink hub

Add two of those to your cart so you get 4 bulbs and 2 wink hubs

Use discount code WESOSORRY to get your order for free "$50 redeem code". Just pay for shipping which is $30 USD

Free shipping to the border or an amerifriend. It didn't like my Canadian credit card when I tried to ship to Canada.

Never heard of wink hub but when I first thought of it I thought it was a porn site.

I had no problem with my card. Still, we'll see who they ship cross-border with. I'm hoping FedEx.

Historically it's been UPS, so the $50 credit will just about cover the exchange and Brokerage fees... :)

Also, Wink charges Canadian customer HST at 13%. And you'll find CBSA charges another 13% because Wink doesn't have valid GST/HST account with CRA.

My hub is still showing orange light, but I haven't received the replacement email yet.

I just talked to Wink tech support. They told me any hub with solid orange light now needs a replacement. They said the email should be sent out in the next hours. I guess many hubs got affected so there is a long queue.

So, I'm not sure if the promo code is targeted, as Wink knows which accounts got affected.

Deal is now dead. Their Twitter account indicates a large volume of usage. People with Hub will get individual code.

https://twitter.com/TheWinkApp/status/5 ... 0631079936c
Gift code to users was abused. We had to deactivate. You'll receive an individualized $50 code within 24 hr of submitting hub replace form.
Option now, if you buy one from a local Home Depot:

http://www.homedepot.ca/product/wink-hub-gateway/876754

You could certainly submit for a $50 code, therefore getting a free WINK Hub. ($50 at HD - $50 Email Code -> Would have to be used for other accessories)

I ordered this late last year with two TCP connected bulbs off amazon, (I think it was a 'free wink hub with two compatible bulbs' promotion), anyway, got the bulbs and found out I couldn't actually use them without a tcp connected hub.. so I bought one of those kits, set the bulbs up with the tcp connected hub and never thought about the wink hub again..
Just saw your post, took it out of the box and downloaded the app, tried to set it up and it's just blinking purple at me and failing set up... (i know the password and wifi network are right )
sometimes it changes to orange and then blue, but it always fails the setup on my android devices..

my question is, is the hub itself worth anything, or should I just chuck the damn thing in the garbage?
Xphile. (as in 'X-files aficionado'..so yeah, I guess I am old..)

The hubs sell for $50 retail.. I'd be willing to come pick yours up for $20 - PM me if interested.

If you get solid blue light, meaning it is working fine. I'd recommend you playing with it for a while before dump it in the garbage.

Something you have to keep in mind.
- Probably you should wait until Wink fixes its server.
- Your wifi must be at 2.4GHz, visible, with WPA-PSK (WPA Personal) security setup, otherwise it won't connect
- Android app is buggy. If you see solid blue light but Hub doesn't show up on your app, you should completely close your app and restart it.
- Try to upgrade the hub firmware to the latest. The old firmware has issues pairing with other device.

Thanks OP. I didn't know about this crash As stated this $50 gifts are no longer valid.

After wasting an hour on the phone waiting to speak to Wink, they admitted that all Hubs are dead contrary to their claim that most were working. It means complete system failure for all customers and now they screwed up even more by cancelling the bs goodwill gift code

They didn't know much even as to their own resolution ie who the courier will be, how they will handle CAD customers etc

Spent a ton of $$$ on this platform and regretting it now
