5.7 vs 5.5 screen size

This may not appear like a big difference in size but I like to maximize my screen size to portability ratio as much possible. I currently have a Note 3 that has performed very well for 3 years and exceeded my expectations. It is, however, getting a bit long in the tooth so I've been looking at upgrading.

I love the 5.7" screen size on my Note but I see that most newer phablets are adopting a 5.5" screen (G5, One plus, Axon 7 etc..). So, for those that have gone from a 5.7" to a 5.5" screen have you noticed any differences in your viewing habits?

Any feedback would be great.

Thanks

I have both on my desk right now (5.7" and 5.5") I don't see a huge difference in usability from my side. I do appreciate the slightly smaller width as I find the 5.7" (Samsung Note 4) to be a bit difficult to hold with one hand firmly, whereas the 5.5" feels like a more comfortable hold. I don't have sasquatch hands so I don't know if that is something that would affect you.

There is a huge difference for me. im really disapointed there are no new 5.7 inch options other than the note 7, but iam not a fan of curved displays. next years gpu will be significanly more powerful so I hope there will be more options then.

Surprisingly I didn't see much difference. I was expecting more dramatic. On the other hand 5.2 vs 5.5 there is significant difference.

That phone has peeked my interest on specs and (mostly) price. Would it be as simple as sticking my SIM card and she's ready to go? I noticed that BH Photo sells it but they specifically state that it cannot ship that phone outside the USA, is there a reason for this? Where did you see it for $289?

Thanks.

OP the phones you list aren't modern day phablets. They're just really big regular sized phones. The market is moving towards big regular sized phones like car market. Mid size cars of today are the size of yesterday's full size.

The only real phablets out there are the LG V20 (If it ever goes on sale), the Note 7 and the 6S just because it's stupidly big for it's screen size.

I wish they would go back to making sensible sized phones for people who want single handed used and making a separate class of phone for power users.

Just a small note to consider: some phones like my Note 7 have a rather narrow screen (due to its 16:9 ratio) - which is very comfy to hold, but I have a feeling that this is major reason why its screen doesn't feel (and doesn't offer any noticeable difference) a lot bigger compared to regular 5.5 screens. Wider screens do have an impact on viewing experience and in general they are easier to work on, I only wish Note 7 had a bit wider screen, just my opinion
I think ideal phone today should have minimum 5.7 screen (even better if 5.9), but with a 16:10 ratio at least. I just feel that 16:9 is only good for movies, but for anything else 16:10 or even better 4:3 would serve much better and will provide a more fluent web-browsing and general usage experience

Get a Note 7, bigger screen but the curve and design allows for a smaller form factor compared to similar devices of that screen size.

This!

Your not really going to notice a difference in phone usage. But like Lovable said, bezel is a big factor. Look at an iPhone plus vs a Note. The iPhone plus line with its 5.5 inch screen is a monster vs 5.7 inch Note 7. By monster I mean the Note 7 manages to fit everything in a smaller case and slick design. I'm not starting an iPhone vs Android debate here, I have a 7plus on order. It's just bezel is a big factor.
