I have spoken to a district manager in Ontario and the corporate office in Surrey,BC. The promo was cut short this morning as it was hotter than they could have ever imagined.

I was told it ended for two reasons;

- people were turning it into a business, they had some people buy up to $3000 of Amazon gift cards. They were also finding people selling the free $25 Cineplex gift cards online for slightly less and making a profit.

- when promos like this launch they work with the company offering the free gift card on limits. In this case Cineplex was offering $100,000 of free gift cards. By the end of day two is was discovered they had already given away over $118,000 in Cineplex cards resulting in a loss for 7-11.

Needless to say, it’s disappointing for those like myself who missed out on the promo. At the same time, I find it hard to believe those at corporate didn’t realize offering anything free with an Amazon gift card this close to Prime Day wouldn’t be this popular.
118,000 / $25 = 4,720 Cineplex Gift Cards, that's $472,000 in Amazon Gift Card purchases .. I imagine this was a record sales day for 7-11!!!

Deal is still alive -- in my city at least!

What city are you in?
I’ve contacted random 7-11 stores in Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, and Brampton and they all say the deal is dead

I guess all 7/11 staff have not understood promotion

I tried to buy 100*10 gift card and hoped to receivs 25*10 cineplex Card however

The staff gave me 2*500 gift card and I paid only $750 via their merchant. So basically instead of cineplex giftcard, they gave me discount....

..........Now I see all the reply promotion was all mass up, that is why promo ended sooner.
You got a way better deal. 25% off, instead of 20% off like everyone else has been getting.

Why would Cineplex just give away gift cards to 7-11 to help 7-11 and Amazon's business.

Well you win this thread then. You essentially got cash back right away without having to go to the movies if you choose not to. This is the level of deal that people put in their RFD signatures Face With Tears Of Joy

Because Cineplex doesn't make that much from movie ticket sales anyways and the markup on the food and drink they sell is insane. If they give you $25 and you end up spending $50 including a movie ticket they still win.

So I was right about Cineplex giving them a vendor credit for it Smiling Face With Open Mouth gotta wonder if they picked Amazon cause it's popular or maybe they get to keep a better % of the sale.

Of course this also reinforces the fact the promo was executed wrong and you were only supposed to get 1 $25 Cineplex card regardless of how much over $100 you spent, which again was supported by the actual wording of the offer printed on door stickers.

I went to a different location in Victoria (compared to the last 2 posters) and they confirmed a memo was sent cancelling everything this am.

I went to the Orangeville location a couple days of hours ago.

They had both cards in inventory but they also got the memo.

Deal is still good in Abbotsford at the McCallum location near Planet Fitness. Just bought $500 Amazon there at 4pm PDT.

I did get rejected at the location at George Ferguson/Gladwin Rd though.
