Monthly payment
Have too many phones... This is how I limit my monthly phone payment.
Public Mobile $36 5GB, $12 250MB, 2x $6 50min/50text, Fido $5 4GB data only plan with a free tablet,
Zoomer $36 loyalty 4GB plan, $0 FPL home phone. Have a better and better day!

If that's the case, they should specify "two months" in the wording instead of "plan renewal". I hate shady wording on things like this.
I still use Speakout for my teenager's phone, and currently buy a $100 worth once a year.

Pay-per-use plan charges $1.25/m fixed charge + usage charge
When your teenage uses more minutes and texts. It may be cheaper with Public Mobile $13/30days with autopay 100 outgoing minutes + unlimited incoming minutes + unlimited texts + 250MB data.
https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/bc/plans ... MB-3Gspeed

The break even point is using 40 minutes/m.
Speakout = $1.25 fix cost + $0.3 * 40 = $13.25 + tax

Thanks for pointing that out. My teenager barely uses his phone (yes, he's an oddity), so Speakout is still the most economical.
I'm trying to get him to use public transit rather than relying on Parent Taxi service, but the tie in to Google maps for route planning means a data plan.

He can preload Google map using WiFi without mobile data if he does not use too many text or minutes.
PM plan is designed for parents. When you teenage used all his minutes or data on his plan, minutes or data will stop because PM does not have pay-per-use charge. i.e. no surprise overage charge.
