Acanac, owned by Distributel which in turn is owned by Bell is looking to grow their subscriber base.

Start.ca and Altima subscribers are being offered the first six months of service free if they sign up for a year of service before the end of February.

Are they checking to make sure you have service from one or the other of those two ISPs? I don't know. You can always try. If you do and it works, or even if it doesn't, let me know and I'll edit this post to reflect your experience.

I have been using Acanac for 14 years. Their service is excellent and reliable. And nothing beats free.

Installation and activation are both free.

I see the 100/30 Mbps is only $32. Have Acanac ever raised their prices over the years in the past like Carrytel?

Not in my experience. I have two circuits, one DSL and the other Cable - in my case pricing has only gone down and they've matched the new price on request, but they have never passed on increases. At least not to me.

They also have some positive review. So do your research carefully.
With close to 100K subscribers there are always going to be *some* dissatisfied customers.

Looks like London is going to get the shaft for cheap fibre services. That or Telus and bell backdoor agreement to end the fibre deployment in London.

That's the point. I have both DSL and Cable and they\re both rock solid. And since they use the same distribution networks as the cable and phone companies, if users are suffering dropouts it is most likely the distribution infrastructure where they live and it wouldn't matter which ISP they use.

And as of the start of the year Distributel and Acanac (and earlier last year Ebox) and all Bell-owned ISPs in Quebec/Ontario and there could well be more. Those are just the acquisitions I know about.

The new CRTC chairman and current Bell CEO worked together in a lawfirm in their early careers. I'm not saying anything but...

I can't say what I want to say because of "politics" This censorship is frustrating. We need actual change.

Former chairman, actually. There's a couple of new chairs: https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/acrtc/organ.htm — unless this new chair also has a past with Bibic...

And the new Ontario chair is former legal counsel for Teksavvy: https://mobilesyrup.com/2023/01/31/mini ... missioner/

Nope. Not talking about former Telus exec, Ian Scott, if that's who you were referring to.
Eastrides also worked at law firm Stikeman Elliott in the early 2000s, where she was in the Ottawa office alongside now-Bell CEO Mirko Bibic. The two co-authored a paper on trademark law in 2003.

Anyone have any experience from switching from start?
I've never really had any issues with start. Perhaps maybe them raising prices on me. But that seems inevitable. I'm paying 60 for the cable home 30 with start

It says deal is first 12 months only. How much is price after 12 months? I’m looking at 60mbps package for 40/month.

So… I assume everyone wondering what’s up with this deal, seems for me here in Ontario all the packages are available and when entering the code it worked! I tried it on the yearly plan, it seems you can’t. Let’s just get this over with before I continue this is a super hot deal even just for a 100 package for 32$, because I’m currently paying 35$ 150 pack before tax with rogers(connected for success)

Just by the deal price it’s a good deal but considering there’s a lot of issues I need to clear up before I can consider, there’s a lot of concerns here for a lot of us.

1st. First we need to figure out if this available for everyone(like op said and on the website it’s for those companies to move to this company

2.if they do prices increases then this will be bad

3. This my own question it said you get charged 9$ a month for extender but when I checkout it says it don’t what’s going on?

I absolutely loved Start, but Cogeco priced them out of the cable market in their region. I was on a similar tier with Start, and that was the top they could 're-sell' (Cogeco capped speed), but Cogeco could offer Gigabit and was not much more in cost ($60 vs. $80). I wanted more speed, so ended up with Cogeco.

I was with Start for about 5-8 years, can't remember a price increase, but can remember at least one free speed increase. I'm a slave to speed, and switched in summer of 2020 when there was more 'need' for consistent speed.

Have to say I am not dis-satisfied with Cogeco. I switched when the offered guaranteed $20 Gigabit (was $100 at time, so net $80), and they have not raised their base price in more than 2 years.
