Accessing user files from a laptop hard drive

The laptop died, won't boot up. Took out the hard drive but I can't access it. No permission.

How do I get around this? Thanks.

you can't access anything on the drive? or just can't access the user folders ?

I don't remember the exact steps and I'm on my phone right now but I think what you need to do is to take ownership of the files / user folder

If you Google that, you might find some instructions

You can also try booting the drive in a desktop. It should boot. If you have the login creditentisls, then you should gain access.
