Advise me of Cheaper repair for Transmission

So my transmission needs to be repaired. Ford dealership told me the oil was burnt and gear can't move beyond Drive.

They told me just to teardown the transmission will cost $2,200. Of course there will be additional charges to actually repair the thing.

Can any of you advise me where else (possibly specific spots) I can go to get it done for cheaper and still get quality work. This is not covered by warranty or insurance.

Thanks

When my transmission broke down, dealer quoted me for 2500, my mechanic quoted 1700. Found a guy on Kijiji who specialized in transmission repairs. He replaced my broken transmission with a repaired one for 750. That was in 2010 though, he is located somewhere in Brampton.

Yes, I brought up my warranty and lady said it was no longer applicable since I'm now at 159,000km.

Never have a car out of warranty serviced at a dealer. They are the most expensive place to do it. Don't be fooled by thinking they're part of Ford. Dealers are independently owned.
Find a good indy mechanic for your service. Since your car appears to be undriveable, you'll have to find someone close to avoid a big towing bill.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

This one died at 159k, so by your logic, your quest's transmission *was* garbage... ?

Definitely would grab a used tranny and have that put in.

There is no point in tearing down and repairing an automatic transmission, it is better putting in a new or used one completely

750 was including labour and all. Funny thing he offered better warranty than my dealership. Ford escape is one of best selling SUVs's, you might be able to find a replacement.

A friend of mine use to own a transmission shop and he did all the transmissions for surrounding dealerships. Most dont do the work themselves and subcontract it out to transmission shop ending up costing the customer more money.Best to shop around.

So the transmission fluid has never been changed on the vehicle? What do you mean, you can't shift out of drive? It will not shift to P, R?

Check engine light on? If yes, can get a scanner to scan TCU codes.
