Might be hot for someone looking to cash out Aeroplan miles before all the changes to that program kick in.

You'd need an Aeroplan account to see the link and the details, looks like, but here is the summary:

Air Canada gift cards:
$1000 gift card - 88000 miles (usually 100000)
$500 gift card - 44250 miles (usually 50000)
$250 gift card - 22250 miles (usually 25000)
Thread Summary
TLDR Version

Aeroplan is:
Good value on last minute flights
Good if you want to take advantage on free stopover
Good value on first class
Good value on one way flights
Good if you don't mind spending extra time searching for availability during peak season.
Can get 1 free luggage on air Canada reward flights if you have aeroplan branded credit card
Bad for flight redemptions with airlines (some are route specific) that have high fuel surcharges. There's a lot of lists online.

Gift cards is:
Good if you're okay with being able to only use 1 or 2 gift cards per transaction.
Good value if you book during low season.
Good if you want to fly air Canada primarily.

Equates to 1.13 cents per point. Not great value, however better than the standard rates for gift cards and other merchandise.

Best served to book travel ahead of time (if possible) using points vs convert to AC gift cards.

I'd save my ae points to redeem for flights. ae points are usually best redeemed for flights, just like hotel points are best redeemed for hotels. So only if you can't really redeem for flights, should this ae for GCs be considered.

Isn’t it 100 pts per dollar towards flights for AE?

No. Go try to redeem for flights and you'll know.

Depends on flight tier and other factors. Can be upwards of several cents per point in value.

I never got good Points redemption with aeroplan for flights. maybe iam doing something wrong. For example:

YYZ -> FRA
Going: Feb 19th 2020
Return: Feb 26th 2020

With Aeroplan: 60k points + $758 for taxes
On AirCanada: $1108 (chose standard not basic fare)

That mean redeeming 60K points for 1108 - 758 = $350
Which means 1 point = 0.58 cent

Thats too low. OP deal is way better

Is it the new tiers you're referring to something new?

Ideally I like to use 25K for West coast flights for best bang for the buck.

I missed the boat on lay over and open jaw tickets to Asia ( as those required more points anyways).

It depends on how you redeem the points. For instance, I just redeemed YVR -> FLL -> EWR (stopover) -> YVR which breaks down to:

Aeroplan: 25K points + $70 taxes
Cheapest flight showing on google flights: $700

So in this case 1 mile = 2.5 cents

That's not how you're suppose to redeem if you're looking for best value. You can get 4c or higher

Avoid booking on AC metal with Aeroplan unless you have AC altitude status or higher.
Never book flights like these where taxes and fees are half the cost to the destination (compare to a YYZ to YVR flight)

This - exactly... the basic rule is do NOT book on AC using Aeroplan in most cases. Some of the other airlines don’t charge exorbitant fees for booking with points (believe United is one that works).

On the days you are flying you could have choosen YYZ/IAD on AC IAD/FRA on United. The Return FRA/IAD on United and IAD/YYZ on AC. The taxes would have been $370.71.
There is also an all United option for $237.04 in taxes.
Both options would have one stop over vs the direct route you chose.

I would suggest reading the following:

Thanks for your tip. Seems you are knowledgeable. Do you mean Aeroplan points can redeem UA's flights? How? UA perhaps has its own loyalty program - Mileage. Seems you mean the aeroplan points can convert into their UA's points? Pls adv. Thanks.

Aeroplan can be used to redeem flights by other Star Alliance members (you are not converting any points). When you do a flight search it will show you options and you will find that surcharges vary drastically between airlines (eg. Air Canada and Lufthansa have high fuel surcharges while Swiss and SAS have lower ones).
