Air Canada - Changed Itinerary by 1 day & 8hr Stopover Overnight - Advice Needed

Air Canada changed my Sept 6th flight significantly, I'm unsure if I should just wait it out as it's 6 months away, or if there's anything I can do beforehand.

My flight AC 681 + AC 1670 has been changed to AC 1670.

Instead of leaving on Sept 6th from YYT at 5:00am, having an 1hr stop over in YYZ, then arriving in MCO at 11:30

I am now leaving Sept 5th from YYT at 21:55, having an 8 hrs stopover (overnight) in YYZ, now arriving in MCO at 9:50

I honestly wouldn't mind the overnight if I had an option to get a hotel or something, but leaving a day earlier is a huge difference - do I wait it out and assume it's going to change probably mulitple times between now and Sept 6th, or try to change now?

Any advice appreciated!
Thanks!

You won’t get a hotel covered by AC, so don’t even bother thinking about that. Period.

You do get to choose any other flight from the same origin to destination within at least +/- 7 days for inbound and outbound for no extra charge. It used to be +/- 30 days during COVID… not sure if that’s still the case.

You can also alternatively choose to depart from YYZ.

If you find a better itinerary that floats your boat, go for it. I would imagine we would see more schedule changes by then, but might as well take advantage of this one now, as it gives you the most flexibility out of all.

Thank you! I will give them a call.
There's a flight that's basically exactly the same as my original flight (except Montreal instead of Toronto)- so I will try and get on that instead

Since it is quite a significant change, the best advice I would give to you is to do your research with the itinerary you want, and share that with the agent.

For example, "I would like AC XXX departing on _____ to YYZ, and then AC XXX to ______."

Hello fellow NL'er - I'm doing the same route a few weeks earlier. Hoping my flight doesn't get screwed up.

As per the advice above, I'd basically present a route that works best for you.

Air Canada changed my flight from a 1pm departure (BUD-YYZ-YVR) to a 6:30am (BUD-FRA-YVR). I wasn't happy about that. I called in and had them change it to a 9:30am departure the next day. I was rather happy with that and would have booked that originally had it not been much more expensive. So sometimes these things even work out for the better.
Do NOT wait, call in now. If you wait then there will be less availability to get something better.

I called & switched to basically the same originally flight except through Montreal instead of Toronto, I found that flight online and just said I wanted to switch to that, the agent was awesome!

The YYZ to MCO portion got changed to 7:00am departure, so no flight from YYT could make the connection except leaving 8 hrs earlier.

Hopefully no more changes to mine and none to yours!

Thank you! I found a better flight online and called and said I wanted to switch to that specific one - ended up being pretty painless.
