Amazing how a camera that's 4 generations behind still retails for so much. It's a great camera for sure, still beats the IQ of many of the current gen compact cameras

That's the old MSRP. Sony doesn't adjust the MSRP on old out-of-production models retroactively.

If you check eBay you can find tons of new ones for well under $ 300 USD = under $ 400 CDN.

I can vouch for the mark 1 still. It's a fantastic camera, very portable and takes excellent photos still. I can show some pics if anyone is curious at its low light performance. Cheers

If you are talking to someone, then suddenly turn your head to the side while still talking... they'll turn and look the same direction you're looking at... LMAO it's GREAT lol so many people do that lol, especially if you do a double take lol, try it out :D

I'm not sure I'd really judge eBay sellers (often no factory warranty, etc) as being a true MSRP. B&H is selling it for about $400USD at the moment, for example. Henry's is selling it for $569. So yeah, $550 seems to be about the going rate if you want to buy one from an actual retailer.

Even though it's a good camera, you can tell how Air Miles treat collectors by offering something this old...
get what is cheap, not what you need

To get a perspective on past deals for the 2012 Mark I, Best Buy had it on sale in April. See this Expired Deal for $328:

I don't recall, some were auto, some manual. You'll have to check the metadata But it was all hand-held, no pods

I have this camera (version 1) and it is an awesome camera for this cost. Although they are now on the 5th version of it, this version is still a great point and shoot.

I have wanted to upgrade from my version 1, but cannot yet justify spending over $1k for the latest model when i still have a fully functional camera.

this is a great club/party camera, that's if you know how to use the flash.
the flash is tilt-able when you pop it out. you can tilt it with your fingers to bounce if off the ceiling.
this results in some really good photos, a lot like the kinds you see that people take with a dslr in the club/an event.
I had taken some really good group photos with this camera in a pitch dark club with a bunch of friends.
