Airthings Wave Plus 167.99 pre tax

Deal Link:
Price:
167.99
Savings:
$130
Expiry:
February 11, 2023
Retailer:
Airthings
Was always wanting to get one of these but never wanted to bite the $200+ bullet.
Happened to see a sale on the airthings site offering 130.00 off using coupon code airthingsmasters at checkout.
I ordered one last night and shipped this morning for $176.39 all in.

As MiharyA98115 mentioned on the https://shop.airthings.com/CA_EN/wave-plus.html site the coupon codes says it expires Feb 11th and it is also a different code (chessair).
The one I posted seems to say Feb 13th on one page and Feb 11th on another. Not sure when the real expiry is or what the difference is between www.airthings.com and shop.airthings.com or why there are two different codes but updated the post to reflect the earlier expiry date.

Interesting. I wonder if I can sell my AT Wave at a decent price and grab this instead.

For those using this or something similar. Is it due to having existing radon issues or your home/neighborhood is known to have high levels of radon?
Wouldn’t it be more reassuring to have a mitigation system installed?

Main reason I wanted it was to check to see if I have a radon issue and if not right away have the ability to see if that changes over time.
If a radon mitigation system was say 500$ instead of 2000$+ then maybe I would just opt to install that right away instead but going to see if it is a problem first before spending more money if I don't have to.

I have a newer house, and In Winnipeg Radon levels are quite high. just for the sake to check, I got a device part of the National survey, however after using for 6 months and sending the device back, they told me they never received the device by mail and it appears to be lost. so I do not know the current levels are.

One of my friend told me i shouldn't be worried even though there are minor cracks in the basement floor, since there is a plastic wrap or paper they have on top of gravel, there is quite likely less chance Radon will be leaking through those cracks.

I am still debating and thinking should i spend 200$ on this sensor or not.

For me it is just peace of mind since you can't detect radon any other way and it is one of the leading causes of lung cancer in Canada... $200 to me seems like nothing compared to preventing a health risk in the future.

I really wish they include the particulate meter in the Wave Plus since I want to see how much drywall dust and other particulates are still around after renovation.

Too bad to code doesn't work on the View Plus

Bought one, always wanted one too and never seen at this price.

I have a 2-story house with a basement, should I install this in basement or 1st floor? I know radon levels are usually higher in basement, but we spend most of the time first floor... I was thinking maybe first month basement then 1st floor to monitor long term.

Yea I also much prefer the View Plus. I have 2 View Plus + 1 wave plus in the house and they give really interesting metrics. Imo these devices made me believe most houses should come with an air exchange and the importance of opening a window daily even in the winter to bring in some fresh air (in homes without an air exchanger).

I've measured radon for 2 months and it never got anywhere close to concerning levels, but I dont have the device anymore. I wonder if it is possible for the radon levels to go up so much and if I should have a device year round

Kind of stupîd they did a hub system and everything and it's not using a standard protocol like zigbee/zwave.

Wondering the same, but I've a 3 storey + basement. Maybe have it in the basement for some time tom check radon first?

It uses BLE which is Bluetooth Low Energy, and it is quite common. Can even be used with Home Assistant.

With their hub, they use a different protocol at around the 900Mhz range, battery lasts longer.

Also check their radonmap.com to see how levels tend to fluctuate in your area so you can decide which area is a priority at the time of the year of most concern.

It will fluctuate summer vs winter if you have a furnace. Open windows in the summer vs AC days vs closed windows and a furnace blowing can lead to different levels.

Thanks OP, I doubt I need this, as my home has a HRV.

But I'm curious to know specific levels in the basement since I have started to spend more time down there.

If your home automation hub has Bluetooth I guess, mine (old tower PC) doesn't. I don't know, for me this is a static home device, it would make more sense to use zwave/zigbee like the smart alarms, smoke detectors, etc.

Just curious, do you have a recommendation on a zwave air quality meter / radon detector?
