Alarm System Rough-In, Options for Use

Hi Everyone,

My house has all the alarm system wires roughed in by the builder back in 2010.
The previous owner renovated the basement and covered up all the wires that lead to the backyard door and windows  so I only have access to the front door/side window wires.

There are holes in my walls for the motion sensor & keypad rough-ins that's currently covered by blank wall plates.

Since wireless security systems seem to be more commonplace now (i.e. Ring), I was thinking of snipping all the wires & patching the holes in my wall.

The contractor I had at my house said he didn't want to patch the holes in my drywall (motion sensor & keypad) because it'll cause more headaches if we had to find the wires in the future.

Just wondering what others would do in my situation. Is my contractor right? Or would you also patch everything up and move on with a wireless system?

let me be honest with you, the window and door sensors are kind of pointless now, they may work if the window or door is opened normally, but if someone breaks the window, or sliding door glass to enter your home, those sensors will NOT detect it and will be useless.

Ideally most people have shifted away from those kind of alarm sensors and moved toward cameras. but by all means the interior motion sensor is still a good idea if you have no pets, otherwise pets will set that thing off all the time, trust me, my friends cat sets off his motion sensor all the tine, but its good if u have no pets.

Are any sensors installed? If so, you can use something like Konnected to integrate them in to your smart home functionality. For example, turn on an outside light when your backdoor is opened or notify you if you leave your basement window open after 10 PM.

Right, I agree. I think the main use is just to know if the windows were left open prior to leaving the house which a wireless system would work for as well.

None of the sensors are installed. It's just a wire dangling at each door and window. I can find most of them in the basement, but a handful of them are hidden after the prior owner's renovations.
