UMIDIGI A7 Pro - $142

Deal Link:
Price:
142 CAD
Savings:
40%
Expiry:
June 20, 2020
Retailer:
AliExpress
UMIDIGI A7 Pro will be on sale in 12 hours. There is going to be an additional 10 USD discount code UA7PRO10 for the first 2000 phones. 135 CAD I believe will be the total price for the 64GB version including delivery to Canada (2 to 4 weeks to hoping no tax via Canada Post?). This phone seems to be the better version of the A5 which was also recently on sale.
I am thinking about buying it for a parent, what are your thoughts?
This won't work with Freedom, right?

Added by mkannuri: you can add a CB site called topcashback for extra 6%. plus additional $25 referral bonus if you are new account holder.

Updated June 17: price with shipment to Canada is now $142 instead of ~$130

It seems to do band 66, so freedom mobile is a go.

I would never trust UMIDIGI with their orders, especially pre-order. They usually give you a shipping date then 45- 60 days later they upload a fake tracking number that stays there for another 2-3 weeks and when you contact them about it, they upload another fake one to keep buying themselves time. The only way to get your money back is by opening a dispute.

Is this for real? Umidigi might not be the biggest or most famous, but they are still a cellphone manufacturer. If they do what you said in a massive scale, at the minimum they would be banned from Aliexpress very quickly. And most likely they will infamously be all over the news.
Best shopping deals I got from here:
Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom $300, ZTE Blade V8 Pro $175, Fluld 55' 4k TV $360

Wasted 10 minutes trying to figure out what the processor in there really is. Still can't find it.

If it's like the AT, they picked a processor incapable of operating the camera properly amongst other issues.

My last pre order was a nightmare, they wasted my time and energy. I thought they were a decent seller/manufacturer, the phones might be good for the price but their support on pre-orders is terrible. I looked up the phone reviews after they did this and everybody had the same experience with fake tracking numbers. Alibaba bans small sellers and not mid-big scale ones as long as people get their money back.

Isn't Power 3 a much better option.
I spend time on RFD,
more than I'd like to admit.
But I console myself stating,
I'd need another job if I wouldn't

This is why I bought my Power 3 from them via Amazon. You know if any issues like this happen, Amazon has got you covered. There is a guaranteed delivery date and if it's missed, you will get your money back and no need to fight with the seller.

I'd say I have very mixed feelings about Umidigi. Their hardware seems decent but their software is bad with little to no support at all. You will never get an OS update either. Even security updates are rare as I am still on Dec 2019 for a phone that was released a couple of months earlier. So if you don't mind those issues then I'd recommend them. I regret my purchase. Nothing but problems and every time Umidigi updates the software they actually make it worse.

I'll wait until Amazon.ca gets it...

More monies, but better sleep at nite... :-)

Also, I'd be wary of these 'prototypes'....

personally, I can't say I lose a lot of sleep over something that costs just over 100 bucks...

Am I missing something? Is it just because the specific model is too new and doesn't have a lot of reviews?

It is a little bit more than $100, if you have $100 to spare, I can certainly part it from you! :D

I have be having a hard time of late getting stuff from China delivered to me on a reasonable time frame, Covid19 issues, I hope. I finally got batteries I ordered 4 months ago. Other stuff I ordered in February did not arrive yet.

LOL at 2-4 weeks. If this is anything like the A5 Pro preorder, it will come in 2-3 MONTHS. That preorder was delayed repeatedly by Umidigi.

Probably a decent deal but be prepared to be patient and wait til end of summer to get this.

Why go for all this trouble for a nothing special phone while you can buy a Motorola at Costco for $179?

I second the motion.....

They first sold the A3 with Android 8 . Yet sold it later, with Android 9, but never gave the early purchasers that update :(

The A5 Pro is a great for a backup phone or to give to kids. Too many issues for it to be a daily driver - updates dry up, unfixed bugs, useless camera.

A7 Pro will likely have similar pros and cons. I will probably pick this up as a backup phone or for when my kids destroy their A5 Pros... but you get what you pay for.

If you read through the whole thread you'll probably see quite a few comments about not being willing to order it unless it was through Amazon. I've ordered a couple of the A5s through amazon and have been very happy with them, but have seen more than enough horror stories about folks trying to deal with warranty/RMA issues when they ordered through ali-express and thus would only purchase another one through Amazon. (And no... I'm not anti-aliexpress... I place orders through them every couple of weeks).

It's not the hardware, it's the issues surrounding warranty replacement if the product arrived broken or DOA.

Because the Motorola is probably a 2GB phone while this one is probably 4GB? That's normally the dividing line between a cheap NA phone and a cheap one from across the pond.

edit: Yeah, the motorola is only 2GB (and appears to be up to $200 now).
