Oh, look alieexpress is allowing me to view the product without logging in for once. Let's see how long that lasts. **** hate alieexpress for that!Smiling Face With Horns

Also read the description of these boards. Often mentions may not be exactly as shown in pic. IE. Water stains, no m.2 slot. It says on the board it has 4 channels. Let's hope it actually has 4 channels. I've seen some of these boards with just dual channel. Be careful!

I've been looking at a dual E5-2678 v3 (Q3'14) setup... Though the performance increase from a dual E5-2670 (v1) doesn't quite seem to be worth it just yet.

Doesn't matter which year the processor is from....what's important should be the IPC, single and multi-core performance and instruction sets.

if you are running a dc, its a no brainer to go for power consumption

but if you are home user and looking for a budget build/refurb pc from ebay. this is a much better deal

And that's why the older Xeons are being dropped from datacentres.

Depending on what you do and behavior. If just web surfing and system on 24-7, it's arguably not better than buying local sales, considering the risk and hassle ordering from aliexpress. I'd even say a 400$ laptop is better than this. But for more power demanding tasks on budget, this is a good price. Hopefully, the mobo would last.

When I saw Xeon in the title, and then ECC RAM in the description, I was thinking dual-socket server boards, which would have been amazing, given how cheap a rackmount chassis is. Oh well...

Sandy Bridge... This will be vulnerable to all sorts of speculative execution security vulnerabilities.

What isn't these days....sadly. That's partially why server boards are more expensive because of the longer supported lifespan, with patches and BIOS updates (if patchable).

For example, this still gets updated BIOS: https://www.supermicro.com/Bios/softfil ... _notes.pdf
