Don't use these to carry a hot cast iron pan, as per Lodge these are "Great for protection from radiant heat when cooking over a grill or campfire."

The red color is great - you can use them as a pontifical gloves to bless the brisket as you take it out from the smoker.

Dumb question, are these good to use as winter gloves?

I doubt any of them are good for that. You'd want a glove with a heavy lining. All these gloves are for radiant heat, not direct heat.

These are similar to welding gloves; a single layer of thick leather. Not great to grab something hot as there is not enough insulation.
Good for welding or holding utensils over a blazing hot BBQ.
