Do I have to jump through hoops to use Kindle in Canada and my city library or should I just pay more for a Kobo?

Using in Canada - it depends. Nothing is stopping you from buying content on Canadian Amazon and Audible. It's super actually easy.
But if you're just starting out, better to transfer your Kindle and Audible stores to USA, and only buy from the American sites. Your Amazon.ca login, password and payment data are also linked to American Amazon, so using both sites will be transparent.
The American side has better sales, and the Kindle Bluetooth will actually work if you bought the American Audible books. But if you already bought stuff on the Canadian sites, you'll lose access to that content if you transferred to USA. No VPN needed.

Using at library - check with your library but Kobo is probably better.

We’ve wanted to upgrade our 7th gens for awhile. This deal was tempting but we weren’t totally sold. However after I saw the link to the other thread I went on chat and asked for a discount. They offered 15% but after I told them some people get 30% they agreed. I have to reach out after delivery tomorrow for the refund. Pretty happy with this. Thanks for sharing!

If you search online you can use a program called Calibre to convert books to kindle's. Some steps involved but once it's set up, it works perfectly.

I always figured these E-Books would really take off or even be used in mass use for other applications like sheet music but the price point is just too high as the quantity of people using them is low.
Most people would rather pay for a tablet or Ipad and use that.

Do you need to add your old device to your amz account? I have a Kindle Touch and when I try to register using my amz account it always asks for approval signin code but there is no place to enter that code, weird!

I have no idea. I bought our Kindles from Amazon so I referenced the order number.

EDIT: I should add that mine do show in my account as well but that’s because I bought it there and it auto added. In my chat conversation I specifically listed the order # as a reference though.

I lost access to my old Amz account so I cannot provide order number. 1st try failed, however the 2nd try went through, the rep agreed to give me $15 coupon, not too bad and I'm happy with that.

This is like the 7th or 8th gen? Haven't really seen any huge jump in technology or significant drop in prices.... But I haven't really been following too closely. Still using a reader from 10 years ago...

Price points stays +/- the same, however with smaller increases in tech. ie - the quality of the text is much higher. The speed of them have increased (page turns, more fluid), USB-C ports (or wireless), more storage, etc.

I've got both Kindle and Kobo devices. The best part of Kindle is A) Kindle Unlimited (which Kobo has now copied) and B) the syncing of content across devices, whether it is purchased or not. Kobo, will only synch stuff bought from the Kobo store.

I splurged and jumped from my 2015 Kindle to this 2021 version. The USB-C is certainly nice, but I was pretty surprised at how much faster the page turning is on this new model.
The numerical prices haven't dropped much, but considering the inflation in everything else, and overall better features, the price is still reasonable IMO.
But if you're happy with your old eReader, why upgrade? :)

I just bought one of these a few days ago. Guessing I can't get any kind of credit?

They’ll just tell you to order a new one and send the “old” one back.

Anyone tried getting a discount while owning a Fire Tablet? I might try later today.

*Edit*

Was able to get 20% off, and then taxes also. Will wait to see the total once it is adjusted in the account. Done over chat, and was told it would be applied 3-5 days after the device is delivered. No need to contact them again.

Is there any benefit to having the signature version over just the regular Paperwhite? Besides the wireless charging and 32 GB of space, they both seem to be identical with usb C.

Light sensor with auto backlight adjustment.
Almost worth it just for that, but the old models have one button night mode (takes 2 taps) which is handy
