[Amazon.ca] $269 - Chamberlain B970C Battery Backup Garage Opener

Chamberlain B970C Myq Controlled Belt Drive Garage Door Opener. Been looking for one with backup battery. This is the best price I've seen this year so far. Not sure if PM with HD or Lowes would work.

Home Depot dropped the price as well. But Lowes has it for 400 still so I PM'd them and end up $242 before tax.

Don't know much on Myq. Is it all open source API? Can I connect it to my own control panel and such if I made one?

Thanks OP. A buddy of mine was looking for a deal on one.

FYI - MyQ enabled garage door openers can be connected to Homekit using Homebridge using the MyQ plugin (replaces the need to install the Chamberlain MyQ bridge).

EDIT: Err, wait "Ships from Canada and sold by pawnshopqc." This is not being fulfilled by Amazon. Buyer beware.

I have been having issues using the wifi to open the garage door? Tried resetting it and did not help.

Business Name:Pawnshopqc

They're actually quite popular they have 33 stores in Quebec. Seems like a pretty legit set up actually. That being said there could be warranty issues ETC.

I've had this for about 5 years now and think it works amazing.

MyQ is a nice touch. You can monitor and have it notify you if the garage door was left open for whatever minutes you set it to(this has saved me a few times of leaving the door open). You can open or close the garage door remotely anywhere with MyQ as long as you connect to the net.

I don't really find the battery that useful because if the power goes out you can always open it manually.

I managed to get this at Home Depot for $229 during Black Friday. Still, $269 is not a bad price at all. I just want to put this out there for those of you who are buying it for smart capabilities: MyQ SUCKS. It's only free if you use Chamberlain's app to control your garage door (the app is garbage). Otherwise, if you want to pair it with your Google assistant or some other service, you have to pay a monthly fee to Chamberlain. I've found a way around this by purchasing a cheap $20 inching relay from Amazon that I can pair to my home network, and thus pair with my Google Home. The inching relay can be used to trigger your door switch to open/close the garage door by using voice commands through Google/Alexa.

Ever lowest price since end of 2018 in Amazon.ca. Going to buy right away.

I saw last week at Costco warehouse in Port Coquitlam / BC that the flagship model B6765 was on stock for maybe $469.99. I don't think it's worthy to paid additional $200 + tax to get a 1080p camera and LED light comparing to B970C.

Don't forget to buy $300 UGO gift card of Amazon.ca, receive $30 GC also for Amazon.ca, and then redeem the GC to buy it. This way you paid even less than $243 for this super quiet opener.

A scary thought is relying on a battery backup for a garage door opener. Respectfully suggest how important it is to know how to use the manual release to open the door.

I got two at that price through a lowes pricematch and have so far installed one. second can wait until spring when I can pull the car out. opener and setup is great. myq does suck however. the only thing it's been helpful for is when the wife is backed the driveway (not in the garage), she occasionally forgets to close the door when she leaves. I'm able to see that it's open and close it from the app. I've never been able to get the door to open with my phone, not sure why. do wish this was controlled by alexa. other than that, as mentioned, the motor/belt is nice and quiet. slides smooth and has lots of power.
Saving money on things I don't need since 2009. thanks RFD

How long does the battery last in there? I heard it's $25 to replace and it dies every year or two. Is that true?

My wife and kids were stuck out of the house because of a power outage.

Attached garage, both doors are on separate openers.
Inside the house we deadbolt the doors so the kids can’t open them and get out - we don’t have a routine of undoing them before leaving.

Picture wife in front of garage pushing the button and trying the keypad, and nothing working, then trying to get in the front door but the deadbolt is on.

I also couldn’t think of the use for a battery backup opener but when I do it will most likely have that option.

It’s a once in a lifetime thing I’m sure, but its happened to us.
