Does Amazon still sell fakes? Is it now safe to buy from Amazon?

I read a bunch of reviews and people said even when they ordered from Amazon they received fakes. The assumption is the 3rd party sellers that send Amazon their cards to sell on Amazon's website get mixed into Amazon's SD cards. So, test your cards if you buy from them. I forget the name of the software that was recommended but I did try it once. It looks like the software just fills up the card with files. I stopped it part way and figured I could do that on my own if that's the case.

I never bought any cards from Amazon. I was just trying out the software on a known good SanDisk card (I had previously filled up the card already with movies and stuff) and had used the card for a couple of years already.

I've had a lot of bad luck with sandisk microsd's, including this one. I rma'd this card 2 times in the past. Their warranty service (in Hong Kong) for a US bought card was excellent. Relatively easy to do, but still.. they just fail out of nowhere. Also had to rma a 128gb U1. I buy samsung ones now since I've never had problems with them.

Deal is over and should be moved to expired.

For anyone else curious, I bought this card and got the following results:

Warning: Only 187713 of 187714 MByte tested.
Test finished without errors.
You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.
Writing speed: 32.7 MByte/s
Reading speed: 75.4 MByte/s
H2testw v1.4

Based on the previous thread, it looks like an authentic sd card.

Card speed is in MegaBytes per second and stream bitrate in MegaBits per second. To convert first to the second you have to multiply it by 8.
30MB/s = 240Mb/s. Regular 4k 30p recorder (Sony, Canon, Nikon) has bitrate 100-150Mb/s . It means U1 is more then enough.

Actually go pros have even lower bitrate for 4k video.

Best I can find is this $93 Patriot on Amazon:

Amazon does carry some risk as previous discussed here.
Only thing I’d recommend is sold by Amazon, doesn’t completely eliminate risk but greatly reduces it. In all cases would be wise to inspect and test.

This is bad advice.

*in theory* you only need a U1/V10 card but the reality is that you need a U3 because Gopros in their highest quality modes (Protune 60fps 4K) can reach peak bitrate of 60 or 78mbps, so a U1 card barely provides enough write speed if they meet the spec consistently. You are asking for corrupted video if you try to get away with a U1 card for any recording worth keeping.

Example: my Sony FDR-X3000 will barf if you put in a U1 card. It will not even let you set 4K mode at all once it detects the card speed.

I have tried a lot of different cards in my GP8 and Sony and these things are actually fairly picky about which cards you use. I would NOT recommend you try to get away with a U1 card.
