Cool monitor, can't believe we're at the 4K 144Hz era now

Looks like the 4K 120Hz is only supported through DisplayPort, since the HDMI port is 2.0 and can only go up to 4K 60Hz.

Why does it have those side and top panels? Is this to reduce glare?

BENQ does the same thing with some of their Zowie line. They're fully removable. It's for the user to forget about their surroundings and focus in on their game to make HUGE Moraxus plays. Not sure if they actually work, but that's the marketing behind it.

I feel so poor when people seem to have budget for such high priced monitors.. Many people has been buying high priced monitors recently.

People have been adjusting their budget/needs on the past year with WFH, like, in theory, my savings with TTC since March would allow me to buy nearly 2 of these (156 x 10 month?) - also lunch expenses in downtown is a lot higher than eating at home...

Plus some companies are offering reimbursement for WFH equipment and so on.

yeah most likely.. maybe everyone's getting bored and shopping at home.. but yet, I work in IT, and being told company is cutting cost.. maybe I will join the CRB recipients soon.

for wfh equipment reimbursement, people's company must be cool to allow claiming monitors with words 'gaming' in it. Mine didn't allow it.

I think some workplaces didn't want to deal with administrative aspects of expense reimbursement/verification and just gave people an allowance.

You usually see them on monitors marketed towards the film industry as they help with colour accuracy and glare while viewing the camera output.
Strange to see them on a gaming monitor, but Acer seems to be marketing it towards both markets?

If you can run this, LG announced a 42" OLED coming soon. They can already run natively @120hz. Just something to consider.

Looking forward to monitors with HDMI 2.1 being released this year. The main reason I haven't pulled the trigger on any of these monitor deals. I really want to get the most out of my XBOX without having to use a massive TV on my desk.

Like others have pointed out, this monitor does not have HDMI 2.1 inputs. So, if you're an owner of PS5 or Xbox Series X|S and want to utilize the HDMI 2.1 features such as 4K@120 or Variable Rate Refresh (VRR), then wait for the successor of this monitor to come out: https://www.theverge.com/2021/1/7/22216 ... cs-hdmi-21

$899USD for a 28inch 4k screen is brutal though. And the games that can run 120fps on the consoles right now are well below 4k, not even 2k. Cold War advertises 120FPS gameplay but at 1080p lol.

I wonder how the LG 43 inch OLED will be priced....

Agreed that its not a hot deal but it's worth weighing the options.

HDMI 2.1 is the latest standard and it's worth the extra wait/money if you care about extracting the most value out of your devices (especially if you've got a HDMI 2.1 device ala PS5, XsX, RTX 3000s) and care about future proofing. Most games out for either consoles aren't making the most out of the new GPU and CPU architectures. We will likely see better quality games that can hit the 120 Hz target in a year or so. Also, for Xbox Series X|S, 120 Hz only works with HDMI 2.1 displays. So, even if you have a game with 1080p @ 120 Hz, you'll not go beyond 60 Hz on the display.

Also, consider that if you keep the monitor for 4-5 years, it's likely that a mid-gen refresh console will come out in a few years that will be able to do 4K@120 + VRR for almost every game.
