We're still not there yet on monitors. It shouldn't be so hard to find a > 60hz 4K monitor with an actual usable HDR implementation (DisplayHDR 400 is not even worth talking about).
Monitors are so far behind "TV"s in terms of picture quality and value, but any "good" TV just only comes in "way too big" sizes...

As a unicorn who managed to get a 3080.... I'm half tempted to get one of these.

LG 27GL850 is still pretty damn good, though..

Just to clarify, it was LG *Display* that announced the panels, which supplies displays to LG, Sony, Panasonic, etc. So it's possible we might not even see TVs/monitors with those panels arriving this year.

So you think a $800 console in 3 years or so is going to have a more powerful GPU than an RTX 3090 huh?
I guess anything is possible in the console world of specs trickery... just add a ton of variable resolution tricks and low detail level settings that are hidden from the gamer and miracles do happen.

Aiyah. I originally wanted to purchase the acer a couple of months back and it was out of stock, so talked myself out of it (look for a lower resolution so lower perf graphics card needed was my way to talk myself out of it) and bought a dell 2721dgf instead. That is also on back order and wont ship till Feb.

What to do? Do I cancel Dell and go with my original intention?

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/co ... eshold=0.1

decisions...decisions...

without tax:

* dell was $470 (boxing day price with 10% rakuten cashback)
* acer would be $683 (amazon price but have the ugo 10% bonus balance - so I factored that in)

However for monitor the $200 price difference isn't the biggest sway, as someone in this thread eloquently put it - for me monitor purchase falls under the "buy once cry once" category

Someone also in this thread mentioned hdmi 2.1 monitors that after reading would kibosh all of this - have to start from the beginning to read upcoming reviews, add more delay and probably those new ones would be outside my budget ($750)

Sorry, just making my thought process public, in the event that a comment could assist in my decision.

Is there any downside in getting this to use as a regular 4k during daily work for the screen estate, and game at QHD 144hz? I only have a 1070Ti and I am not chasing for 4k 144hz gaming.

if they made a cheaper one that does 144Hz at 1440p but 4K at 60Hz I'd buy it... dunno why they dont make such a monitor, for my needs

think I'm going to wait until after CES before I decide on any new monitor purchases, should bring prices down also

cant do over 60Hz+ at 4K even with $1k+ video cards. you'd most likely be running games best at 2K or 3K, and desktop usage at 144hz

Not seeing any 3080's at all, just "backorder for all locations".

Didn't check other cards.

Just a thought - I'm not sure how much better 4k would look over a good 1440 monitor at this size. I have a 40" Phillips 4K 60 hz and a 32" Dell S3220 144 hz monitor in my setup and the 1440 @ 144 hz is what I prefer to game on. I will at some point buy a 4K 120+ hz monitor, but only when they get a 40" plus. I think these smaller monitors wouldn't do anything for me over the Dell, which is bigger and less cost when on sale. I have a 3080.

Yes you can. As long as the games are tuned for performance and a low bar to entry (eg.Rocket League). For that 4k 120hz is very doable. For more state of the art graphics you won't get 120hz as you mention though. But have you tried scrolling through online paper ads at 60fps? Even scrolling this forum you need to scroll slowly in order for text to be readable. Double the hz means you can scroll twice as fast while remaining readable. There are far more uses for 120hz than graphics oriented games.

From a sweetspot standpoint, 1440P > 4K for gaming.

The Dell S2721DGF that was on sale boxing day was a better option IMO.

In China I just looked up,a monitor in this specification costs 480$ CDN,
The brand makes a huge profit margin.

That's because their inventory system is garbage and displays preordered cards.

I don't get the value proposition of having a 4K display at only 27". Meanwhile, there's the Acer Predator XB321HK which has a better screen size, but it only does 60hz....and yet it's g-sync certified.
I have a friend offering me his gently used XB321HK for about the same price as this 27" 144hz model.....what would the RFD brotherhood do given such a choice?
