[Amazon.ca] Acer XF270H bmjdpr 27" TN 1920x1080 monitor, 144Hz 1ms freesync, $211

didnt see this getting posted.
I know some people dislike 27" 1080p, or TN panel. But for the price, i thought this is a decent budget gaming monitor

I have an NVIDIA card, does FREESYNC only work with AMD?

You won't reap any of the benefits without an AMD card, but it'll work fine as a monitor.

Yes, Freesync is AMD's adaptive sync technology. Nvidia's adaptive sync is called Gsync and is generally much more expensive as it is hardware based instead of software based like Freesync. It doesn't mean you can't use a Freesync monitor with an Nvidia card but you won't gain the benefits of adaptive sync.

Currently I run a BENQ 27" monitor at 1440p rez
its 60hz IPS monitor

Would a monitor like this be way better for gaming. Currently I play PUBG mostly as well as some other FPS/mobo games

Before this 2K monitor I was running crappy 1080p 24" monitors that were 60hz 5ms so have never use a 144hz monitor at 1080p to know what difference would be. I have a crappy 24" one as my 2nd monitor but might grab a 144hz one to replace it if it would be much better running games then 2K one

How necessary do you think adaptive sync is?

It's nice to have but it isn't necessary by any means. I'm not sure about Gsync but Freesync only works within a certain framerate range so if you are above or below that range then it does nothing anyways. If you can find a monitor with the appropriate adaptive sync that fits your budget and has the specs you want by all means but I'm not sure if its a dealbreaker yet. I would say a high refresh rate and decent response time are more important that adaptive sync overall.

Big difference between 60 hz and 144 hz if you are getting greater than 100 fps in the games you play. If you are below 100 fps, you'll notice a difference but you may be better off upgrading your computer before going 144hz. Also, if you're not a skilled player, it won't make much of a difference.

Is this pretty similar to the VG248QE ? A part from the size and brand I can't tell any other differences. Would it be considered an upgrade from it? I'm hesitant to get it, but the price is amazing.

Not a fan of the colour on this when next to my 29 ultrawide LG IPS. I'm returning mine. If anyone wants... it's yours at cost. PM ME
