[Amazon.ca] Affresh Washer Cleaner, 3 ct. Pouch $7.99

Price has dropped to what it was when I purchased in November, and it's currently $0.02 more than it's ATL.

I don't get S&S, they can jack the price up and still ship it to you.?

Yes. With S&S you pay the price the day of shopping, but still have the % rebate

That's not quite right. With S&S your order is automatically made a few days before the ship date, with the prices from the order date, not the ship date. You can cancel the order before it ships.

If the price drops within that time, you can take advantage with a little effort.

(Note: I'm not taking about the very first order, that works differently. I'm talking about the regular schedule.)

For example:
- S&S delivery is scheduled for March 4
- Order is auto-created on Feb 16, when the price is $9.99
- You have until Feb 23 to cancel
- Will ship on Feb 24
- On Feb 22, you notice the price has dropped to $7.99. You want the better price. There's still time!
- To go manage your S&S, and skip the current delivery. This cancels the order from Feb 16. (Takes a few minutes)
- Then reschedule your next-month's delivery back to the current month.
- This creates a new order dated Feb 22 with the current price, but it's still part of S&S and you'll still get the discount.

are these good? as in, are these things good in general? do they work well to clean the machines? and then is this particular brand good? the tide one someone else posted is 7.99 regularly, and each pouch is 75g vs this one's 40g...i would assume being a big brand, tide one would be better? unless this affresh is one of those secret small name brands that actually does good work?

Citric acid is a great washing machine/dishwasher cleaner alternative, and you can buy a 5 kg bag of it on Amazon to last a lifetime for cleaning purposes.

Citric acid is the primary ingredient of Affresh.

Affresh is made by Whirlpool so it's not exactly a small brand. I've tried a few different brands and they all seem to work the same. I find they do help remove built-up residue from regular machine use.

not worth the effort to risk them jacking up the price and I miss it.

Citric acid is the primary ingredient of Affresh.
The ingredients are different in the washer and dishwasher cleaners. As per the safety data sheets, the main ingredients in the washer cleaner are sodium percarbonate (70%) and sodium carbonate (20%), whereas the main ingredients in the dishwasher cleaner are citric acid (40%), sodium bisulfite (40%) and sodium carbonate (15%). The remaining ingredients in these products act as preserving and anti-caking agents or fragrances.

Sodium percarbonate is made from combining sodium carbonate and hydrogen peroxide. It's also the main ingredient in oxiclean.

You're right that you can purchase the main ingredients separately - it's definitely the RFD way. Yes, these companies obviously make a lot of money selling small quantities of chemicals for the sake of convenience or to take advantage of people that don't know better.

are these things necessary?
before, never thought about using something like this. because our clothes are always rubbing on the inside of the drum, it's always looks shiny new. but the inside where we can't see, things starts to buildup. watched a few youtube videos of technicians taking apart washers and they show you soap/softener/lint/dirt/hard water buildup that sticks to the wall of the drum. you can also see it by trying to carefully peak underneath the rubber gasket on front load washers and you'll see the buildup there as well.

after using this, i noticed it does a good job of cleaning things inside the washer (plus deodorizes it as well). if this is your first time cleaning your washer and depending on how old your washer is, you might need to run the cleaning cycle 2 to 3 cycles of with the cleaning tablets to do a deep clean. with my in-laws washer i had to run 3 clean cycles before almost all the gunk on the side of the washer was cleaned off as well as the dank smell.

like someone mentioned, this thing is mostly citric acid. i wanna try buying bulk citric acid powder and use it directly. deciding if i want to get it from amazon or take a day trip to costco business centre.

forgot to add. in my opinion, i'd try to stay away from using vinegar as a cleaner like almost all the online diy cleaning solution will tell you to. i'd rather use something that won't eat thru the more delicate components of the washer and cause major damage in the long run.
