Aren't there a lot of ways to make cold brew without the need for a machine?

Save some space and money and use a mason jar and mesh strainer/cheese cloth.

doesn't look very easy to clean. Don't need another specialty machine at home.

Get a cheap coffee maker and brew into ice - add milk and sugar and stir.

I think this is more about convenience of having it "brew" and store in same container. Reusable filter as well.

We've been using ours for years and it's been well worth it.

I used to do it in a mason jar, so my partner got this for me as a gift.

It's absolutely a luxury item you don't need. But no regrets here, and I've spent more for less useful, that's for sure :)

It's very easy to clean actually. Comes apart easily for a deep clean even.

Cold brew and hot coffee over ice are very different things. It's worth using the mason jar method to test it out, you may be surprised at the difference in both flavor and how it makes you feel.

I am pretty sure it has less caffeine and less acid, so it can be a lot easier for people to stomach.

My homemade version, put ice/cold water in a French press.

Bought this a few years ago on sale (around $30-$40), used it a few times early on but has been sitting in the cupboards since. Maybe I didn't figure a good ratio or grind size but I found after a few days a layer of coffee sludge would start building at the bottom of the container. If you don't clean it regularly gunk starts building up in the tubes.

If you are a daily cold brew drinker I could see this being useful but for most people probably better off using a french press or mason jar.

This thread reminded me that I still have it, maybe I'll give it another go..

I have one of these and it works well for cold brew. Cleaning is easy. There are reviews that say this thing leaks and I had the same issue. It’s a slow leak so you will likely find coffee in your fridge in the morning. It appears to be a common issue as many on kitchenaids website left reviews with this issue. Kitchen aid sent me a replacement two years ago and it’s been trouble free since.

I do a hot water rinse each time, then on the third go I do a full clean.

I have tried a lot of different coffees, but the one that I didn't expect to be my favorite is Folgers Intensely Dark pre ground you get in a tub.

I used it as a last resort one day and haven't gone back. I keep the expensive stuff for a hot cup. This Folgers one just seems to hit perfectly for me, and the grind is consistent for the cold brew.

Dumb question. Don't you need hot water to brew coffee?
