[Amazon.ca] Amazon Echo Plus 2nd gen $99.99 (New historical low)

Echo Plus 2nd gen is on sale for 99.99, which is a new historical low price point. The cheapest it has ever been sold for (on Amazon at least) was $120 at the end of June.

Thanks OP!

I considered jumping on this but now I'm quite confused as to what the difference between the Plus 2nd gen and 3rd gen Echo is. Both seem to have the same speakers and no smart home hub.

The biggest differences are:
- Echo Plus has Zigbee Wireless Compatibility, which allows it to control a wider range of smart devices compared to Echo 3rd gen. However, devices that require Zigbee are typically older so it's not that useful unless you have some pretty old smart home hardware
- Echo Plus has a temperature sensor, so you can give temperature-specific commands

Honestly, the Echo 3rd gen is probably the best deal for most people, but there's probably a small niche that can benefit from these 2 additional features of the Echo Plus.

We want you to know
This product does not include a built-in smart home hub or a temperature sensor.

The description and image do mention it does, but at the top where they want us to know, not.

Sorry, looks like you copied that text from a different product link, from the Echo 3rd Gen description. Reviews for the Echo Plus (2nd Gen) mention the benefit of the Temperature sensor, same as described above in this thread.

Great Echo if you need a Hub - Built In Temperature Sensor is a great bonus!

This Echo Plus is great for people who want to get rid of any Zib-bee hubs they are using for smart lights and gadgets and simplify their home automation hardware. The built-in temperature sensor is a great little bonus and I use mine to ask for the inside temperature, "Alexa, what's the inside temperature?" You can also use the temperature sensor as a trigger in a routine.... turn on the window fan if the temperature is greater than 23c or turn off the window fan if the temperature is less than 22.5c

Anyone have any tips for keeping an Alexa outdoor? Specifically the backyard.

tempting, we've had dots (and show5s) in every room for years, just not sure we've used them for more than just the doorbell and turning on and off lights in the past 6 months, lol... not sure how much sound quality we need for that
