My understanding is it runs on a propriety version of Android, but I am not an expert. I followed some instructions off YouTube and I was able to "side-load" google play store. So far I have loaded a couple of Apps like Shaw free range TV app from the Play store and I have not had any problems. For the price of this tablet, I am pleasantly surprised with the purchase.

It is native Google Play. Of course, there is going to be some odd-ball app that may not work. But majority of Google Play app works quite well.

it should actually be $149 - go to the fire 8 page, and there is a banner to save $50 on the fire 10. i chatted with customer service and they said it's a glitch and they would give a $10 credit, so give it a shot.

here is the fire 8 page, you should see the banner on top:

Nope. Even worse than that. I bought mine in Florida. As soon as I logged into my Canadian Amazon account... Bam.. no more Alexa. I created a US account and it was back. When I came back to Canada, it detected my location and disregarded the us account.. bam... No more Alexa.

I bought the fire HD 8 and it was just painfully slow. Would this be any better?

I have both this hd10 and hd8. It's much faster. Faster cpu and more ram. Mind you i only use it to browse the internet, email, home automation, and read books
