What's better? Fire 8 at 80$ or Fire 7 at 50$. The only difference I see is size and stereo speakers. Not really sure if that's worth 30$ more. Capacity is a bit higher, but 8 gb is negligible since I'm getting an SD card with it also.

Just saw this too. Great deal for someone like me who occasionally wants a tablet for convenience but not anywhere near willing to spend a fortune.

Note that you'll probably want to go through the modest hassle of installing Google play store and installing or sideloading YouTube.
In the US, it comes in two versions: "with special offers" (meaning it shows you ads on lock screen/notifications) and without. Assuming this is without, at ~$65 USD, this might be the best price in either country, ever.

Amazon's own modified version of Android. Comes with Amazon's App store, not the Google Play store.

does your nova launcher really work? everytime i hit home it goes back to amazon desktop and forces reloading of nova... read through some forums and seems thats the best it can do. Wouldn't call that no issue
Also not understanding all the praise with the speaker... its nowhere near loud enough. Literally every single device I have in my house that outputs sound is louder than the HD8. I really wanna like it, especially for the price... and if the speakers were better I really would. But it doesn't have the power to be anything other than a good affordable media consumption device, yet that speaker is not useful anywhere outside of a completely silent environment.

Thanks OP! Bought one. Was looking for a cheap tablet to read ebooks on from my library. And I had a $10 giftcard. So $70 for an 8" tablet is great for me. Nothing even close.

Never had to reload nova once...I'm using the paid version of nova prime. Not sure if that would make a difference.
However, when getting to the home screen, the Amazon version does appear for a split second before nova kicks in again. If that's what people are experiencing then that is a non issue for me, doesn't bother me...I also read others having issues with the Gmail app closing on them but I use it daily that hasn't happened to me once.

I've got one. Weirdest thing for me was that you can't activate it without giving Amazon your credit card info. Excuse me?? They are making it easier for them to charge you for things you might accidentally click on. Sneaky.

As far as apps go I have not tried to jump through the hoops for side-loading, but the Amazon app store is very basic with skimpy inventory. Half the apps I tried to find are not there.

On a positive note it has a nice screen and sound, and the camera is ok.
