[Amazon.ca] Amazon Prime Day - ASUS Vivobook 14 R3-3200U/4GB/128SSD/1366x768 - $380 ($120 off)

Found this thought I would share, the R3-3200U is respectable, almost like an i3, downside is the 1366x768 resolution and Windows 10 S. Considering it, only thing bothering me is the resolution and R3 power consumption. I can easily get full Windows keys on eBay for $5.

ASUS VivoBook 14 Thin and light
14” 1366x768 HD
AMD Dual Core R3-3200U CPU
4GB DDR4 RAM
128GB SSD
AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics
Windows 10 Home S
X412DA-AB31-CA, Slate Gray.

Don't forget Windows 10 S for those who don't know how to make the switch to full Windows with paying.

I'm going against the grain, the screen resolution is bearable at this price. The make or break is the Ram, depending on user.

I know Asus has been having bad QC issues lately and they probably don't give a shit, but it's like they didn't even try with this one.

14.0" (16:9) LED-backlit HD (1366x768) 60Hz Anti-Glare Panel with 45% NTSC (TN panel, NITS not reported)

2 -Cell 37 Wh Battery
Whenever someone asks a question that starts with "Why do they..." or "Why don't they...", the answer is always a) money, b) stupidity, or c) both.

And on a 14" screen. Acceptable.

Definitely respectable specs if budget is absolutely strict. Hell, I have used worse computers than this that cost a lot more back in the day.

I do believe there are 2 RAM slots, hoping it should be easy to add another 4GB. Considering buying this as a gift.

If the RAM and SSD are not soldered, we have a winner here.

3200u Passmark = 5000

Respectable for a ultrabook.

Pictures reveal it isn't ultra-slim, just slim. This goes back into purgatory, still an attractive buy for some.

According to the Q&A of the product:
Q: Is Ram upgradable or is it soldered to the motherboard??
A: Yes, the ram, hard drives, and battery all looked swappable when i opened it up.

Only problem is I don't know if that answer applies to this specific AMD laptop.

Guys who bought this particular model on amazon, I have 2 questions:
1- Does it have a backlit keyboard?
2- Does it come with a fingerprint scanner?

Thanks

To anyone who may have been considering this laptop in the summer; it's priced even lower today (only - 'Deal of the day') at $299.99 CAD.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07RWJY3ZQ?tag ... uage=en_CA

And 6% off via ebates ("Rakutan(?)")

(Side question for the future: Should I have posted this as I did: under a six month old thread?
Or created a new thread? And perhaps included a link to this old thread?)

Thanks all.

Happy holidays. :)

lol funny thing is I stumbled here trying to research this laptop model more closely.

it's a good deal but i'm pretty sure i'll be frustrated with it since i'm on a desktop that has an i9 and a monitor with 1440p res. this is a significant downgrade for a laptop...
