[Amazon Canada] [Amazon] TCL 50S425-CA 4K Ultra HD Smart LED Television (2019), 50" ($399)

TCL 50S425-CA 4K Ultra HD Smart LED Television (2019), 50 inch for $399

On sale for 399 from its normal price of $529, seems cheaper than the 49 inch version ($479)

Ships in 1-2 months?!

Edit: looks like a pre-order. Last year's model was the 49S425. The 50 not shipping until March 1st. Wonder if there are any differences other than size.

Price seems fair, but regular price on the 55 inch model seems to be 499, therefore 50inch regular postedprice at 529 seems a little high and that would cool this deal a bit!

$468. However, it's currently OOS, for an extra $68 the extra real estate might be worth it.

I'm still torn between this and the Hisense equivalent that comes up occasionally at Costco for the same price. I specifically need a 50 inch so not bothered if 55 is a better value.

Wow! At this rate and prices, I am most likely going to be putting televisions in every possible room by the end of it - bathrooms, laundry room, kitchen included - Cos why not?

Does anyone know if there are reviews of these models out yet? Or of comparable models?

Also - these seem so cheap! What is the difference in picture quality and a Sony at twice or more the price? I was thinking about getting a 49" Sony X900F when the price dropped slightly more, but that would still be more than double a TCL and I don't know if it will be worth it.

Take as PC monitor?
I picked this up on boxing day and it's been serving well. Upgraded from a 32" 1080p. There is minor backlighting at the bottom of my panel but I don't really care too much. For the price it can't be beat. 4k is okay, but hdr is amazing (coming from a 32" sdr display)

I've almost sold a tv in the kitchen to my gf. I want to mount one on a bare wall to be able to play recipes and stuff or watch news in the am.

I wanted to try one in shower built into wall with plexiglass covering over it.. then I realized that's way too much work for the limited use.

Further question, has anyone seen the additional warranty option on this tv? If you check out the 55" they list on the page, you can buy 4 year warranty for less than $70. But nothing for this one.

The picture quality on the Sony X900F is much nicer. It's got a more even backlight, so you have fewer issues with grey uniformity. There is a relative lack of a dirty screen effect. The colours are more accurate, and capable of showing a wider spectrum (so 'richer'). It's capable of darker and more uniform blacks, better detail resolution, and better motion processing. It'll have a better upscaler for sub-4k content. It'll do 'true' HDR. Highlights will be better on dark blacks. Build quality will be higher. It'll have better anti-glare coatings.

If you see them side by side, the difference will be obvious. The question then becomes: 1) would you notice if the TV isn't side by side? 2) Would you care? 3) Are you going to use this TV enough that it's worth the investment if you do care? 4) Does the incremental money saved more than offset the decrease in utility of having a worse TV (albeit a better utility per dollar one))? I mean, the X900F is a totally different price bracket, the 55 inch is like 1200 on sale.

What I'd do is buy a 'nice' TV like the X900F for primary watching (I got the Vizio P-Series), and these cheaper TVs for secondary watching - everyone's decision matrix is a bit different though!

This compares the two TVs (very display and picture quality focused).
