[Amazon.ca] AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X 24-Core, 48-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor, without Cooler - $1,899.99

Almost at the all time low. Currently about $100 cheaper than most places (so, about 5% off)

Newegg.ca is selling this at the same price...but has a shipping fee of $4.99:

You must be young. I paid $4500 for my Amiga 3000, which is close to around $10k today inflation adjusted.

I have 256gb (8gb x 8 sticks per bank x 4 banks) of ram.. but it's also in my proliant esxi server I'm running.. only got 4x320gb hard drives in RAID but I can't find any good deals on SAS drives.. maybe I'll just get a SATA controller or SAS to SATA cables instead..

Cost for sample builds using the 3960X found at pcpartpicker range from CA$3800 to CA$15000.

Sorted by price: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/builds/by_p ... ice&page=1

Although sort by rating might be more interesting: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/builds/by_p ... ing&page=1

Always easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

But in this case, maybe not.

Sounds impressive until you realize it's probably 10-12 years old technology and sucking 300W from the wall for $300-400 current gen CPU performance.

I paid $1680 for a 2080 Ti at the start of the pandemic because I knew there would be plenty of days of being stuck at home. No down vote for you!
