[Amazon.ca] Asus RT-AC86U/CA Dual Band Wireless Router $150

Very good router if you don’t need wifi6. I am using one, bought $125 last summer from Amazon.

Edit:

Just bought one more to set up mesh with my current one.

WiFi 6 is the way to go. Recommend skip unless you need it now.

Good router and good price - I have it setup with AIMesh and it works well.

I personally don't think wifi 6 is all that much of an improvement in terms of real world performance within a residential setting, so I'm happy enough to stick with wifi 5 for now

Great router. I must own between 8 and 10 units across locations.

Had one of these, just died just after 2 years with a nice burning smell from inside.

This is almost an industry standard because of its large installed base of customers and media recommendations. However, I'm holding out for the Asus AX86U version as I don't want to eventually face all the overheating issues that's been commonly reported by many, which likely contributes to an earlier-than-expected end-of-life.

Some might feel AX-or-nothing, which I think is inappropriate for this deal. Those are often $100-$150 more anyway, which puts them in another deal category. Some might have had one but had an earier than expected end-of-life. Generally speaking, it's an easy safe purchase because they've sold so many of this model. It's still a leader in the features/$, especially with Merlin and VPN support. Just monitor the heat from time to time, and find ways to deal with it if it becomes a problem.

For WIFI 5, AC86U is still very good.......

However, WIFI6 has many improvements, that I personally would get onto the wifi6 gears, for better speed and coverage.

True! This is ASUS AC86U. Just as good (may be better) brand/model since good reliable LinkSys WRT54G. I am too old :(.

If this is $100, it's a great buy for someone doesn't have more budget. For $150, I would go for a WiFi 6 router.

Exactly this ^^^

WIFI 6 does have it's subtle advantages. For example I slowly upgraded my FireSticks to Max versions and they run better on WIFI 6. (Also - they are MAX!!! ;) )
Everyone has cool signatures with the stuffs they own listed... I'm in!!!
Koodo $40 +$5 (jerks) 6GB plan + Public Mobile $15 for 100 mins and 250MB Data X2 for the parents

Quite a few with regular price around $150 mark. Wait for a sale and you can get a better router for similar price. I think the Asus AX6100 sale at BestBuy was just over at $169. Just look around as I would not buy AC router for $150 at this time.
