[Amazon.ca] ASUS TUF Dash 15 (2021) - $1,999

ASUS TUF Dash 15 (2021) Ultra Slim Gaming Laptop
15.6” 240Hz FHD
GeForce RTX 3070
Intel Core i7-11370H
16GB DDR4
1TB PCIe SSD
Wi-Fi 6
Windows 10 Home
4.4lbs

Was: $2,299
Now: $1,999

It was this price before according to ccc. Highlight is the RTX 3070, though I think it's only 80w max but still more efficient than the 2000 series.

How is this unit?

I hear alot of RTX 3000 laptops severely limit the power used by the CPU and GPU making them no better than the 2000 series.

EDIT:
"I was expecting better performance from this chip in these tests since the MSI GP66 Leopard, also using the RTX 3070, tested with higher numbers. However, there’s a good reason for these results. Asus explains on its product page that it set the chip’s clock speed and total graphics power to its lowest-possible power requirements, likely due to the laptop’s slim design and to maintain efficient performance. The TUF Dash F15’s GPU is clocked at 1,290Mhz (with a boost of up to 1,390MHz), and it has a total graphics power of 85W; this is compared to 1,620MHz and 130W in the GP66 Leopard, which is the highest-possible configuration."

Here is a comprehensive review

It seems to fall behind a 2070 max q because of power limits.

Personally I think this is a pass unless you really are wanting the other features. But this laptop probably would of been better off with a 3060. Since the 3070 is crippled by the limited power. Just as well to save some money.

I have to say avoid buying this one. I7 11370H is scam, a 4 core i3 with i7 name.
3070 is weak power one.

I suggest you take a look on dell new g15, 1699.99, with extra 10% off sign and 8% rakuten discount. nearly 1500

Why do laptop manufacturers do this? Presumably, people with gaming laptops aren't playing on their laps or using the built in track pad when gaming.

Have a mode that lets these suckers get as hot as possible.

I use a 60W cooler on my 85W desktop CPU. It hits 99C under stress and 70-80s in games. As long as it's not throttling I got no issues.

These new laptops are a total ripoff. They are just a xbox or playstation with a screen. For 3x the money. Plus all the headaches involved sorting windows out. What a ripoff.

that's a 3060, not 3060 ti? mining will be gimped
Only the 3060 desktop is gimped, plus the mining limiter was unlocked by NVIDIA via a driver leak anyway.

Laptops you have more to consider. Heat is a big issue. Whixh needs more robust / expensive cooling solutions due to the limited space. And then power draw affects the battery.

Also when you are trying to keep it thin and as light as possible it compounds these issues.

This laptop has its niche ... but it's not what it's marketed as. People will look at it and see 3070 and compair it based on that alone.

At the end of the day. There is much more to consider when buying a laptop for gaming.
