Installed this for a friend who lives in a condo, as they are not allowed to change anything on the outside. It works well and the auto-lock feature is great.

and if you don't mind the larger size, I would recommend the 3rd gen instead.
They use typical AA batteries which is much cheaper, and it integrate with home assistant flawlessly.

I personally have this lock. My recommendation would be DONT go with it. Worked fine for about 5 months.
1. The app and the options under it are crappy. for eg, no option to auto lock the door at a schedule. like if I keep the door open, lock it at 11 PM. Contacted the team and they said its not supported.
2. The battery is really a weird & expensive one and its not common, cr123A something. It hardly lasts about a month and then you need to get 2 more. Dont understand why they cant add rechargeable lithium ion batteries in these things. Someone suggested assigned a dedicated IP for this lock to have batteries last longer, but that does not help extend the battery lifetime either.
3. After about 6 months, it has completely stopped being smart, as in the lock randomly unlocks itself and also the motor really jams. On their troubleshooting guide, it says I might have chosen the wrong panel for my door, but im sure its the right one. Once I went out to get groceries and the lock had unlocked itself after about 15 mins of me going ( I had already turned off smart unlock and lock feature, so it was not that) , leaving it completely open for 2 hours with only my dog in the house. Now I have just removed the battery out of fear that it might unlock the door when im not home or at night AND/OR lock me out of the house when im in the front yard or something.

I signed up for the Eufy lock kickstarter campaign someone posted here couple months back, so expecting to get that lock soon, Hopefully that one is good. We will see

Do your research. I have a Gen 3 and its way better and more reliable.
Gen 4 is a downgrade.

This is the link for the kickstarter campaign where they are giving the whole package/kit for 50% OFF. But I think they are no longer accepting new supporters/ no more rewards. It also has fingerprint option, from what I see.

Mine lasted just over 1 year. Bluetooth failed. Contacted August. They offered me 10% off a new one.

sorry what does the bridge do exactly? is it just a wifi ap? if the door is close enough to the router, then it doesnt matter right? and i dont care about integrating it with all other smart device into one app, i dont mind just using august's own app. would the one i linked be enough for my use case? i just want a lock that can auto unlock when im walking up to the door, and auto lock after like 5 mins or whatever. and also be able to check the lock/unlocked status, and actually remotely lock/unlock when im out and about.

4th Gen is a huge downgrade from 3rd despite a smaller size. It uses CR123 batteries which are more expensive than regular AA's, and because it has a built-in bridge the battery goes down much faster.
There's a sucker born every minute.

Have been using one for the past year and can confirm that the battery goes down pretty fast when using wifi. First 3 pairs only survived around two months each. Contacted August and they sent me the connect module for free, which solved the issue since I've been using the same pair of batteries since October.

This problem aside, it's a pretty neat product. My usage is pretty basic (auto locking and unlocking) and for this purpose it works pretty well.

Interesting. I have both the gen 3 and 4 and they are both great. However, the Auto Unlock on gen 3 is a bit better then on 4.

To the people who comment on gen 4 battery life, there is a bug which makes the lock think the battery’s are low after a short period of time. You need to replace the battery’s with new ones, open and close the lock 4 times via the app, and put the old ones back in and the door will be good to go again!

Overall, both versions are great. I never use the key to my house anymore, I can’t imagine living without it.

Not too sure if the people having issues is unique to their situation or not, but I set everything up according to their instructions and everything is great
