Depends on your music tastes.

If you like more bass, go with the DT1990

Anyone have personal experience comparing to the Hifiman Sundara? Looking to upgrade from my Fidelio X1. Might wait for the new X3 to come out before I decide.

If you can justify spending more than double for the DT's, i'd suggest these.

Not at all true. Any decent to high end motherboard will handle these just fine.

I had a pair for a while, worked great with my Z390 Aorus Master.

Personally I wouldn’t buy these again though. I’ll only buy planar headphones in this price bracket.

Are these much better than the Sennheiser HD6XX equipped with a fanmusic c6 cable and velour earpads? What are the significant differences?

You're right but an amp will really bring life to it

And I'd say go with the closed back DT1770 for bass and rock music (more expensive now, though).

Don’t you need flac encoded songs for this to notice any difference?

I don't use an amp.
Technically, all headphones, earphones, earbuds require an amp to function.

How are you even able to (satisfactorily) use a 600ohms headphones without an amp?
