What ones of these Android boxes are the best ones these days? There's so many that I've no idea which is which.

Depends on your needs and competence..no offence.

For simple IPTV, this box is fine.

This is a very standard minimum-spec box, with the choice of 8/1 or 16/2 memory. S905W chip is cheaper and lower performance than the S905X of last year, but probably not affecting media playback except 4K/60fps. Basic 2.4 GHz WiFi. No Bluetooth. Simple remote. Will run Kodi and other media apps just fine.

Sale price is ok for for what you get.

In their lineup they also have this superior box for the same $69 list price: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0787ZB85C
It has the S905X processor and dual-band WiFi + Bluetooth. If the discount also applies to that model, it would be a much better buy - but the code doesn't seem to work.

Will this still be able to run 4k? If not I guess I will have to cancel my order

4K/30fps yes, 4K/60fps no. That, and a reduction in max clock speed from 1.5 GHz to 1.2 GHz was the performance hit going from the S905X to the S905W.

The S905X was widely specified as running at 2.0 GHz, but it turns out that was a false spec from Amlogic - testers discovered that the variable clock speed of the CPU does not actually change when increased from 1.5 GHz to 2.0 GHz in the settings (https://www.cnx-software.com/2016/08/28 ... dvertised/). Amlogic quietly changed the spec sheet only after this discovery was publicized.

The S905W is specified as running at 1.5 GHz on the spec sheet, but most Android box sellers are no longer specifying the clock speed because they are trying not to mention the performance reduction of the cheaper S905W chip introduced last year. However testers have found that most box builders are limiting the S905W to 1.2 GHz, apparently over concerns about heat or stability.

Sorry I'm relatively new to 4k. Is this very noticeable to the average human eye? Should I just cancel and get something better?

You are unlikely to notice the difference on TV/movies, assuming you were able to find any at 60fps. More on rapid action videos.

There are actually very few sources of 4K material to play on your Android media player. Netflix will only play SD quality on Android media players for DRM reasons. Most Blu-Rays rips are limited to 1080p. Most Youtube 4K clips are limited to 30 fps. So it's not likely to be a big concern, at least not in the next couple of years.
