[Amazon.ca] Citizen Eco Drive Marvel Classic $95

Found this while looking for a economic Eco Drive watch for a disabled friend. Tracking price for a while, up and down like a yo-yo, fluctuated from $87 to $265 on Amazon.ca over the past month. "Sale" price $300 on Citizen.ca site. I didn't even know there's a Marvel Line from Citizen.

May be of interest to some. One comment was that this watch is on the bigger side. Military grade adjustable canvas strap.

Sale price only lasted one day last time.

Nice that's a good price for this watch. But why does it say made in China? Are citizen watches made there?

I'm not an expert - I believe the movements are made in Japan but every other part of the watch can be made elsewhere. Citizen has production in many other countries including China.

**Amazon descriptions are usually not accurate (for size, dimensions, materials, I recommend googling the official website).

iPhone are made in China. So are all your appliances at home, and laptop, tablets etc, most likely.

That turned out better than expected, I don't care for the Marvel branding but looks fairly subtle and the watch itself is quite clean looking. Fair price for a standard eco-drive watch.

It's common to see "Movement Japan" but the watch is cased in China. Even made in japan or swiss made doesn't always necessarily mean what you think it does, there are lots of tricky regional rules full of loopholes and exceptions when it comes to branding country of origin

If an overseas factory is owned by Japanese and managed by Japanese its products are considered to be Made in Japan.

Citizen has factories all over the world but I believe all movements are made in Japan.

Not really. Honda factory in Alliston is owned and managed by Japanese, and the car it's still made in Canada.

"The goods are recognized as made in Japan if the percentage of added value in Japan exceeds a certain level in the final product."

Really? That really dilutes the value of Made in Japan - US mandates that great than 50% content be American.

I don't know if this is naivete or trolling.

Someone tell Tim Apple that his products can say designed in California, legally allowed to say made in California.

nothing against made in china. but watches are more accessory than a functional item. people are snobby about it (e.g. italian belt, UK wallet, etc)

i believe there is a battery. the light shine on the face to charge the battery.

i have two ecodrive that i don't wear often in a glass display case near a window. never had to switch battery. i also have a fossil watch in the same case. the battery for the fossil has died sometimes during covid and i've been too lazy to go and get it changed.

The black panther one looks really really sweet! But I can't justify the price even at half off for quartz even if it's an eco drive.

I should have specified watches, lol Smiling Face With Open Mouth And Tightly-closed Eyes

Of course cars manufactured in Canada are subject to NAFTA rules in terms of content. In order for Honda to qualify for no tariffs under that regime they have to meet the requirements.

anyone know if amazon.ca count as an authorized citizen canada online retailer?
I've gone through the website but I can only find physical store, no list of authorized online retailers.
