The source is from the biggest Brazilian Tech Forum. Unfortunately it's in Portuguese. There has been more than 600 reports of recent CX/CXM "explosion" PSUs, all from the same lot. There is also a lawsuit going on since many got other parts damages due to its failure.

The lot number of many failed ones are the same as shown in the Amazon ad

After reading through the thread, it seems CX550s and CX650s (aka the non-modular units) with lot numbers between 195048xx and 200248xx are the ones impacted. I also see no way of actually locating the lot number via the Amazon listing. Note there is no mention of any issue with any CX__M (semi-modular) unit.

I think the confusion is stemming from the part number, (CP-9020122-NA (non-mod) vs. CP-9020103-NA (semi-mod)) which will be the same for every CX650 or CX650M, and the lot number, which would be unique to each batch and is located under the bar code (as demonstrated by the pictures in the thread posted above).

Exactly this.. I just finished reading through the forums as well and the problem only seems to be with specific batches, and according to the last few pages of the forum the problem seems to fixed on the newer batches. Also there is no way of identifying the batch on Amazon so if you're interested in purhcasing this psu then go ahead and check the S/N for the batch number once it arrives, chances are that it will most likely be a newer batch especially since it ships in 1 to 2 months. I bought one of these a couple days ago from Canada Computers and my batch number is 20217190 and so far I have absolutely no issues (will update if something occurs however it seems unlikely, the issue is supposedly identified in the first two weeks of use if defective). Another thing id like to mention is that the problems seem to be with the -BR models, now I'm not sure how different these would be from -NA models but its something to consider.

Unless you need it now, wait for a deal on a better made unit (80+ gold certification, seasonic or top tier FSP OEM).

Given this doesn't ship for a month or two, you could easily lock-in the price (no doubt at this price it is a great entry PSU for mid-range builds) and just cancel if something better comes up.

Oh shoot, I have a TX series Corsair powering a 2080 and a 2600X. Should I be looking to upgrade? I thought Corsair was kinda respectable and that's why I went with this brand, but after seeing your commend I'm wondering if I should upgrade my PSU sooner than later...

EDIT: TX750M 80+ Gold to be specific
