Canada, Eh!!
Even though it's for an older laptop Lenovo X230 Tablet... decided to get MX500 250GB since it will be main computer for banking, email and MS Office so data important... no video games or anything media intensive [adobe not even installed].

Just need for about 20 GB data [presently using 11 GB] and only other install would be W10 Pro, MS Office 2013, Kaspersky Internet Security, Firefox, Chrome, and possibly Opera.

While it seems using old laptop... prior until recent was Core 2 Duo!!

****************************

Also have Alienware Alpha [Intel i3] from few years back... did update ram to 8 GB [initially 4 GB]. Would either of BX500 or MX500 improve the gaming experience? No concerns at present playing relatively current games. And not concerned about data loss as all games can be easily downloaded.

*****************************

Any appreciable improvement for Xbox One S or PS4 storage usage? Presently using 1 TB USB3 drives on both without issues.

Thanks!!

5 min video explaining DRAM-less drives (BX500). It's good cheap storage or good to revive non-essential laptops/desktops but for something mission critical you'll want the DRAM'd MX500:

Many of Linus's statements in this video make it seem as though DRAM-less drives are horrible, which is totally incorrect.

The only weakness they have is with 4K random read/writes and extremely large writes (25gb+).

When looking at sequential reads, DRAM-less drive performance is almost identical to DRAM drives. This makes them perfect as a game drive or a SATA2 laptop drive.

Any i3, i5, i7 would definitely see an improvement in performance. Can't comment on gaming but I put bx500 in my old and slow HP with Intel Pentium 1.2GHz with 4gb ram and it is flying!

SSDs will decrease loading times but they won't increase your framerate (that is a GPU/CPU issue).

I bought the Alpha when the original deal came around and the first thing I did was put a BX100 into it. It is still ticking. It makes a HUGE difference. I retired the unit but I still kept the SSD and moved it into my next computer.
RFD is not just about saving money, it's about the thrill of the hunt and not paying full price like Joe Shmoe did. This applies to everyday items as well as high end items that I don't really need.

Seems like the MX500s have also been reduced. Perhaps not their lowest price:

MX500 500GB - 82.99: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0784SLQM6 (Lowest 79.99 according to CCC)
MX500 1TB - 159.95:https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B077SF8KMG (Lowest 154.99 according to CCC)
Thanks to the OP for the 250GB post, and to Pete2662 for the update. I was going to get the 250GB, saw this, changed my order, then remembered some Amazon gift cards from VISA points. Net cost for the 500GB SSD, including tax: $2.95

Who knows. Trump trade war with China will increase cost for businesses. I won't be surprised the cartel on price fixing is sneaking in to prevent price drop or even profit off this war. Or tariffs increasing in US will impact prices here as well. Nothing is predictable any more.

As with anything technology, if you need it and can fully utilize it, buy it. If you don't need it, wait. Price will also be lower (at least when Globalization is the norm).
