1TB Crucial P1 is $132.99 (NVMe but QLC based). Other option is to wait for the usual drives with Phison/SMI controllers that come with TLC for maybe $10-20 more.

And this is all you need to know: The MX500 has a reputation for being a solid, reliable drive but it will simply get smoked by almost any NVMe-based drive from a numbers perspective because of SATA limitations (6Gb/s). In terms of real-world performance, the difference is likely similar. However, if file transfers are in your future, the higher the bandwidth, the better.

I've been using the 2tb version for a year now. It's a good drive but not as fast as a nvme drive. That said, most people will not benefit from nvme so spend your money wisely.

yes. nvme is way faster when doing synthetic sequential copy tests which you will literally never do in your life. it's a faster interface. the chips on the board have nothing to do with nvme and they are still the main constraint to real world performance

If you were looking at an SSD, this is better! fewer cables, smaller. If you are coming from standard hard drive, this will seem like heaven on earth. Windows loading in 5 seconds.
