Wow. Had purchased one at 84,50, guess I'll return it and get it at this price then. Thanks!

Good price but not an all time low. I think I purchased this for 52.99 in 2019.

Still decent enough that I'm going to grab a second thanks OP

Looks like the 500GB size is discontinued. Crucial's website shows only 1TB and 2TB sizes: https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/x8-portable-ssd

Anyone know if it's possible to open the enclosure and swap drives?

Also I assume there's an NVMe SSD inside. Anyone know what model?

Thanks. I was hoping I could the enclosure and USB interface in an emergency for cloning, e.g. when upgrading an existing NVMe SSD to a larger capacity. Probably should just get an enclosure for that purpose.

It uses QLC, still a great buy if you intend use it as archive but look for TLC if you plan to use it as portable storage.

Is this worth the premium for a backup external drive, or should I just go with an external HD? I dont mind leaving it on overnight to do a massive transfer once a year, or are there other factors like safety and longevity that I should go for SSD in this use case?

Can someone who owns one comment on this? Is this a problem or rare cases?

Speed, size, power consumption. If you dont need best in all of those categories you can get 20x storage for 2.5-3x the price. (10tb $200-$220 usually can be found). I think you can wash this drive as well as drop from cliff and the data will remain. These are small and rugged. SSD are larger and slower, and probably not cheaper.

Phone to this, then this to ROM, external, NAS, or offsite every so often. 321 backup methods. I enjoy a quick full 3 minute backup on a thing I am quite prone to forget or lose somewhere. This is meant for fast transfers mostly. SSD is pretty quick, and cheaper. IMO and equal sized m.2 or nvme drive+enclosure would meet or exceed $65 ATM. Plus things only get faster. 7 years this will look old - SSD will be ancient

Would this be good tor a tesla cam? People generally recommend a samsung t5 or t7, but this one is quite a bit cheaper for the same size storage.

Would it be any good as external harddrive to install recent game?

My pc SSD is saturated and I feel like the price per gb is good and the convenience of having it portable is just a +

is this a good use case?

It runs warm but slow writes isn't an issue for me.
