Pre-COVID pricing, it doesn't count as that's pre-Fauci pre-Biden pricing.

Yes, a Crucial P2 SSD will have modified firmwarebylo wrote: ↑ Looks like the 500GB size is discontinued. Crucial's website shows only 1TB and 2TB sizes: https://www.crucial.com/products/ssd/x8-portable-ssd
Anyone know if it's possible to open the enclosure and swap drives?
Also I assume there's an NVMe SSD inside. Anyone know what model?

Thanks. I was hoping I could the enclosure and USB interface in an emergency for cloning, e.g. when upgrading an existing NVMe SSD to a larger capacity. Probably should just get an enclosure for that purpose.Dhanushan wrote: ↑ Yes, a Crucial P2 SSD will have modified firmware

Speed, size, power consumption. If you dont need best in all of those categories you can get 20x storage for 2.5-3x the price. (10tb $200-$220 usually can be found). I think you can wash this drive as well as drop from cliff and the data will remain. These are small and rugged. SSD are larger and slower, and probably not cheaper.sushibucket wrote: ↑Is this worth the premium for a backup external drive, or should I just go with an external HD? I dont mind leaving it on overnight to do a massive transfer once a year, or are there other factors like safety and longevity that I should go for SSD in this use case?
