Reason: updated price and url
Thread Summary
Do I need a license to fly this drone?
Yes. Since it weighs over 250g a license is required to fly it in Canada. You do not need a license to fly drones under 250g such as the Mavic Mini.

Is the license hard to get?
The basic license isn't too hard or expensive. If you want to fly in controlled airspace you need an advanced license which can be fairly difficult to get. The test is longer and you need to score higher and it requires more detailed aviation knowledge.

Where can I fly it?
With a basic license you can fly it up to 400' above ground level and away from airports. You can't fly this drone:
- Over people
- Near airports (within 5.6km, or farther for large airports)
- In most major cities, since they usually have an airport nearby
- In national or provincial parks
- In some municipal or regional parks (check with your local parks authority)
- Over prisons or military bases
- More than 400' above ground level

Here's a map that shows many (but not all) of the restrictions. With an advanced license you can fly in controlled airspace with Nav Canada permission, but the hoops you need to jump through to get that permission often mean it's not worth it to fly recreationally.

Why would it become obsolete? I have a Mavic Mini and it still does everything I bought it for.

might not have all the bells and whistles of newer models but it's still an amazing drone. would not hesitate to buy this if I didn't already have one.

Saw this review on the listing: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/customer-revie ... B086XCGMN7
You must be licenced to use this drone and you had better know all the rules and regulations otherwise expect to have Enforcement Officers from Transport Canada trying to track you don't if any of your footage ends up being noticed or someone complains.
EDIT: If you need a license to fly this thing, pretty important to note for this deal.

depends on your use case. it's already been supplanted by the Air 2S. but if you're just looking for a drone to fly and take video/pics as a hobby, this is plenty. i'm a hobbyist and bought the original mavic air shortly before they introduced the Air 2. paid about the same price as this set knowing it's going to be replaced by a newer model. no regrets. video still looks "good enough" 4k/30p in daylight.

only thing i find lacking is the flight time and range...something the Air 2S has greatly improved. i've gotten enough use and footage out of it to be worthwhile and will probably upgrade to the Air 2S in the next 2 years when they release the Air 3.

According to Transport Canada, you do need a license to fly this drone as it weights over 250 grams: https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/drone-safety/learn-rules-you-fly-your-drone/flying-your-drone-safely-legally

Yup, that's why I posted that review. If you need a license to fly this thing, pretty important to note for this deal.

A couple weeks ago a friend of mine told me that "the DJI support guy [he] was chatting with today said that the Air 3 is in testing stages". In the past they've announced new Air models in April, so a new one may be coming down the pipe fairly soon. I typically take any "leaks" from customer support with a grain of salt but the Air 2s was released April 15 2021 and the Air 2 was released April 27, 2020 so it seems pretty plausible.
