What is this drilled used for, what makes this different than a regular 20v cordless drill?

This type of drill is used for mixing mud for laying tiles, concrete, mixing drywall compound, etc.
The 20v cordless drill wouldn't have enough torque to mix the mud and if it did, it would burn out quickly.

Just don't know if Id have enough use for it. Is this type of drill required/needed for mixing mortar for backsplash for example? That's one project I'll be doing in the near term future.

Not needed you can mix everything by hand.

I use the rigid drill, and it hasn't burned out yet. If it does, I'll use the lifetime LSA
