Love mine because the feed goes direct to my blueiris which handles motion detection and recording. We had to get a new power supply for it to work properly but it's survived 3 Canadian winters so far.

Is the footage all stored on the actual doorbell itself so that if stolen it's gone, or?
yes, it has a built in 4gb emmc storage in the doorbell.

Why the wired version doesn't use chime inside to save the recording, like the battery version?

because the battery version uses a home base, which acts as a bridge and connects to wifi and has storage inside it like a mini nas, while the wired version uses a chime, which is just that, a chime, not a home base.

wouldn't battery powered models be better since SD card is inside the house?

battery powered, same price

personal preference, i dont want to take it off periodically just to charge it and have a few hours of just straight down time with no temporary replacement or solution. bigger factor is the inconvenience and hassle, the smaller factor is the chances of something happening during those few hours that i might need recordings for as evidence, or just someone at the door with no doorbell to ring, and has to knock really loud cuz im upstairs in my office, is higher than someone going around houses at night and pricking off doorbells, albeit it both fairly low.

and realistically, if someone does steal it, they can also steal battery powered ones, in fact its easier to steal. id be more upset about the cost of replacing the doorbell than the recordings, cuz what are you gonna do with the recordings exactly? file a theft report for a sub-$200 property with the poilce? u think they will give a flying rats ass? even if the thief is dumb enough to show their full face when stealing, in which case they probably wouldve been caught already, the police still wont do anything besides filing a report, i doubt they would even put it on their twitter unless it becomes a serial case

The police won’t look into a thief stealing a doorbell unless he’s a repeat offender. It’s not that they don’t care, they just don’t have the resources to look into everything so they prioritize cases. This would be at the bottom of the totem pole.

Just an FYI, you can hardwire the 2k battery version, which trickle charges it - this takes away the inconvenience of taking it inside to charge and makes it equally as difficult to steal as the wired version, and you still get the benefit of storage on the Homebase (rather than the doorbell). That said, it's still a little finicky, since the battery can still drain faster than it's being charged (have to play with the settings to find a balance).

I find the motion detection of the 2k battery version to be very inconsistent - it will trigger with the reflection/shadow of every passing car, but then miss someone driving into the driveway slowly. Also, we've heard sporadic phantom chimes (from the mechanical chime, but not the Homebase) in the middle of the night. Wondering if anybody with the wired doorbell has had a similar experience...

Also have the 2K battery version which is hard-wired, so no charging is necessary - but do not have the problems with motion detection and spurious chimes you mention. So far, so good. Survived 2 winters (including this one) already without hiccups. The best part is the no-subscription-needed model of doing business.

i dont know how to hardwire the battery verison, that will probably go under "inconvenience and hassle" for me, im too lazy for that lol

but ya, i have the same issue with motion detection, sometimes it would detect cars passing by in the streets, or neighbors walking out in the very corner of my view, but completely miss an amazon delivery person at my door steps...its rare, but it happens.

and i dont have teh chime issue, but i do have push notification issue, in that half the time, i just dont get it. i have to manually keep the app running in the background, but i think apparently thats an android issue? for battery saving? but i dont ever use power saving modes, and i have specifically enabled this app to run in the background, so i dont know what else to do. and i would be kinda ok if its just motion detection notification, but it also includes when someone is physically standing at the door ringing my doorbell, i dont get that either! that i think is a bit ridiculous, i think those should be 2 types of notifications, and the doorbell ring should be a hard push to force thru like a phone call or text msg.

How did you get it working with blue iris? AFAIK this doesn't have ONVIF support or RTSP? I'm about to rip mine off the wall since they Eufy promised RTSP was in development, but never delivered on it.

The good news is hard-wiring the battery version is the same as hard-wiring the wired version, haha, so no additional hassle there. Actually it might even be easier because you don't need to jump the wires in the mechanical chime.

I've seen a few posts on the Eufy community forum about people having issues with push notifications (I haven't had any so far, using Android as well), but wow it does seem ridiculous that you don't get notified if someone is actually ringing your doorbell. Honestly, seems like everyone's experience with Eufy doorbells is very YMMV...
