[Amazon.ca] [Expired] ASUS ROG Strix G17 (2021) Laptop- 17.3” 300Hz FHD/3070/5900HX/16GB 3200 MHz/1TB SSD for $1,999 Hot?

First posting here. Searching for a new gaming laptop and came across this:

I remember few days ago Lenovo legion 5 pro 16" deal posted for $2,000 and was OOS within few hours. This would be comparable to that.

This is OOS everywhere but on Amazon it shows in stock on September 22 and London drug has it but can't seem to checkout (shows special order), don't know how ordering there would work for this.

https://www.amazon.ca/Gaming-GeForce-Ke ... ics&sr=1-2

Specs from the webpage:

· NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 8GB GDDR6 Graphics
· Latest AMD Ryzen R9-5900HX Processor 3.1GHz (up to 4.5 GHz)
· 300Hz 17.3” Full HD 1920x1080 Display
· 16GB DDR4 RAM 3200 MHz | 1TB PCIe SSD | Windows 10 Home
· Backlit Chiclet Keyboard Per-Key RGB | Wi-Fi 6 & Bluetooth 5.1

Can upgrade RAM upto 32GB and storage (there is another PCIe empty slot).

Reviews seem alright apart from some who complained:
YT reviews seem great, here is one:

Could any PC/deal expert comment if this is a good buy?

Too bad no webcam, annoying I have to use a webcam for zoom and microphones aren't enough.

I barely used this laptop but so far I have a very good impression of it.

- 5900HX is very powerful
- RGB effects look very good
- Battery life is huge

- No Mux switch but USB-C will bypass optimus
- You will need to upgrade the RAM for better performance
- No camera

No camera could be a pro depending on how much you value your privacy

This is a very good deal for the specs

Compared to the Legion 5 Pro

This is only 1080p (Legion was 2560x1600 with a taller 16:10 Aspect Ratio)
And the RAM is 16gb (Legion came with 32gb)

But getting the R9 5900hx, 300hz (Legion is 165hz), and individual key RBG is cool.

Priorities! Both are good deals.

I will say though the Legion 5 Pro has a mux switch and a 720p webcam with a physical toggle on/off kill switch.

I'll be keeping my Legion 5 Pro but damn now I wish it had the R9!

Solid specs but you need to look up reviews to see if there's sufficient cooling or if it's overheating a lot. Also knowing ram speed would be nice

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is one of those Amazon floaters where they put one or two units out at reduced prices as a test it would seem at least to me.

I got a similar great deal about four months ago. I bought it, it went out of stock. Amazon then cancelled my order as being out of normal purchases for me (true) demanding I send them a copy of credit card statement (bizarre request scam like) and it went back in stock.

Provided what they wanted and it went out stock and then my credit card sent me a text alert asking for confirmation and I immediately replied yes but they still cancelled the order as a fraud precaution. Computer went back in stock. Got my credit card to finally approve and sure enough it went out of stock. Must have only been unit on offer for that reduced price.

What a hassle when only a few units in stock. Got my order filled in the end but is there a better way to avoid this on high value purchases on Amazon?
