The 2019 version has 2GB RAM... which I feel is the absolute bare minimum for Android. Some would argue 2GB not enough for a good android experience.

For comparison, the 2021 edition (not the one in this thread) has 3GB RAM. That was the one that was recently popular during the 2021 Black Friday threads.

The 2021 version was $135 everywhere around Black Friday. Stack staples welcome coupon ($10 off) or pc optimum promo (30k pts at the same price or no tax at RCSS) and it’s actually same/better price for a newer revision of the same tablet. Basically this is a pretty cold deal unless you need a cheap tablet now and missed Black Friday/Xmas deals. Deals generally do repeat themselves so the $135 price likely will come back fairly often (but the added promo would be ymmv).

I would say 4GB of RAM should be the bare minimum these days. 6GB for optimal performance

Amazon locked down the firmware. You will get a half baked tablet with sales ads from Amazon.
I would not buy .

OK for reading but I find the lack of apps frustrating.

The 2019 has only 2gb of ram, and the microusb port is atrocious. Save your money.
2019 model is USB-C.

Be mindful this isn't an Android tablet, but rather locked to the Amazon ecosystem.

It actually is an android tablet. Search YouTube for methods to change certain things. My 2021 fire tablet has the play store and all the apps I want.

Installing Google play doesn't need any jailbreak or rooting.

Correct, I mixed up 2017 and 2019, since the 2019 barely changed over 2017 lol

Nonsense. I use the 2GB RAM version and it's fine. We are not talking Windows 10 here.

That's nonsense I use the 3gb 2021 version and with my of the settings disabled I find it still slow. Especially compared to a phone sold within thr last 4yrs.

There's a 4gb version which I hope is much better.The FireHD 10 plus

Well, can you post a link to a phone sold within the last 4 years that has a 10.5" screen?
There's always "that" guy in a tablet thread that's ready to post that there's not enough of this or not enough of that.
The reality is we are talking about a $125 tablet here and not everyone is ready to drop $500-$900 on a Galaxy tab or an iPad.

Just like Tim "The Toolman" Taylor (Tim Allen) in Home Improvement ready to scream "More Power!"
Don't be "that" guy.

I was going to stay quiet this time about this Amazon Fire HD tablet but you've drawn me into this: I will defend this tablet deal. /Flame suit on :)

From a previous RFD thread

If you are in the market for a tablet, you should consider buying an Amazon Fire tablet.
Arguably, you get a better product for less money because Amazon subsidize their tablets and lock you into the Amazon environment hoping you will buy other services like Amazon music, Kindle books, Amazon Prime Videos, Audible audiobooks, Whole Foods Market, etc.

But you can easily break free of the Amazon environment and turn your tablet into something closer to a regular Android tablet, by using Fire Toolbox to “de-Amazon” it without having to root your tablet. You can remove the Amazon ads, install the Google Play store or others like the Aurora store, etc. You will then be able to install any other app even if it is not part of the Amazon environment like Chrome, Netflix, etc.

Fire HD 10:
  • 10.1 inches IPS HD display 1920 x 1200 (224 ppi)
  • 2 GHz Octa-core processor
  • 32 GB of storage expandable to 512 GB with a microSDXC card
  • Battery 6300 mAh
  • USB-C cable and charger included

Previous RFD threads: here and here

Don't listen to me, don't listen to the thread crappers, if you need an affordable tablet, read the 3 previous threads and make up your OWN mind.
