They just updated android tv to include ads on the launcher, So, not necessarily. For reference the android tv box was $200+ not $35. Is this from personal experience or from what people on the internet say? Asking out of legitimate curiosity as I just spent a week at a cottage and someone brought a 4K streaming Firestick and I didn't notice a speed difference. I had the original FS and thought it was okay. The Lite seems underpowered. I wait until the 4K is on sale at SDM (or I can use points to get them) or else whenever we get our Prime Day in Canada and buy a couple to give to friends. I have the extra cables for them so i can add other content as well as an ethernet adapter. One (cheaper) device. I have both a FireStick and a Chromecast at home. The only reason I find the FireStick remotely useful for is to sideload apps so I can watch content I normally wouldn't be able to get. Other than that I rather use straight Chromecast all day long. I'm just wondering why other people need an actual Firestick or Android Box.

The non-4K stick is fine and does its job but you wont go back to it once you use the 4k version.

OK so it's not my imagination then, these should be relatively the same performance. We have the 2020 Lite and it seems snappy enough to me. The Lite is not a huge savings over a 4K but it is the cheapest device when on sale and great for those older non-smart 720p TVs. It is the same processor found in the Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick Lite - 1st Gen (2020)
The Fire TV Stick 4K has 1.5GB of RAM, the Fire TV Stick has 1GB of RAM.
