[Amazon.ca] GlocalMe SIM Card Adapter, Multi-SIM Management $68.94

Use $5 coupon to bring price to $68.94! Black or white colour

Multi-SIM Solution : With our Simbox, you can put different SIM cards in the box instead of smartphone, manage these SIM cards well by our app, and make calls with any SIM card that you like.

Multi-Standby: Especially for iphone users, the two sim cards can not be in standby at the same time, so it is quite suitable for iphone users who have more than two sim cards. For the people who want to stay abroad for a long time or at the same time still want to keep their old sim cards at home. Or the people who have different SIM cards because of the work but do not always want to travel with two phones.

Smart App Control: With our Glocalme app, you can answer calls or call others from the sim cards that are plugged into our simbox without roaming charges. All contacts from the simcards can be uploaded to the app, and then they can make a cloud call. And you can delete the data about the contacts yourself, as operator of the Simbox we must not have access to your data.

Full Compatibility: Easy to use and compatible with most popular smartphones in the market. Fully compatible with iOS 9.0 and higher versions, Android 5.0 and higher versions. Simcard adapters are included, so it works for micro- and nanosim cards.

12 months Warranty: Guarantee up to 12 months and our customer service is always at your disposal if you have any questions.

Having hard time understanding what it exactly does. So you need overseas SIM card with active service on it. You plug that into this box and box uses internet connection to communicate to/from whichever country SIM is from to avoid roaming fee?

-or-

You travel out of country and it uses own app while SIM is plugged in at your home to forward calls/texts? You will still need local Wifi or SIM card with data.

It seems box itself has LTE radio built in, what is that used for? or maybe there is no radio. It's just poorly written description implying that it has one.

For those that don't understand the purpose of this box, imagine owning a phone now that has 5 extra sim slots. You can use as many as 5 sim cards and travel with you anywhere you go in the world.

For example, if you're heading to the states but you have a single sim phone (an iphone for example). You can insert your iphone's sim into this device, leave it in Canada, and travel to the states (or wherever else in the world) and pick up a roaming sim in the states and insert it into your iPhone so you can save money on domestic calling, and roaming data while having access to your Canadian sim card to call and receive phone calls and text messages like you're still home (Canada).

this is actually a very nice concept to avoid roaming fees. I like it.

I get local SIM card too. I'm just wondering what this does on top. So you still need to get local SIM card, and get Canadian calls/texts forwarded is the main benefit, correct? So far my solution is just use whatsapp/FBmessenger while away with local SIM card.

Sounds like a device to convert all calls or text messages to the app data, so as long as you are connected to the app, you will receive the calls and messages through the app (cellular data -> app data). As that being said, you do need cellular data or wifi to access the app oversea to get the calls and texts from the app.

WOW. this is also selling in the NA? I have one and it's working perfectly.

The main purposes of this item:
1. Extra two slots for sim cards.
2. Put the box in your home country (relative's home), to receive confirmation text and calls which from your home country (which means you can register apps [with geo-restricted], and save long-distance fee).

How it works?

insert your extra sim card -> connect the box to the internet at home -> access all text and calls from anywhere through the app (with data or wifi).
The monthly fee of my sim card is only $1 CAD... free to receive texts.

How do you access the sim left in Canada? Through the box app?

If I knew something like this existed, I would've bought this and put it in China at a relative's home an keep my chinese sim cards active year round. It makes life so much easier for app verification, banking verification. Everything Chinese to be honest.

LULUMON wrote: I guess this is good if you want to keep your existing overseas number. With lots of global apps (whatsapp,FBM) and no long distance fee, I'm not seeing benefit but I do understand what it does now. Two extra SIM with typical VoIP call delay, and no MMS isn't really any better than just using Fongo.
ya. the long-distance fee isn't important, the main purpose is to register geo-restricted apps.

That's exactly what I am doing with the box for years. You can get one from Taobao, same box. and that's why im surprising that it's also selling in NA.
And you must already know there are some sim cards only have 5 or 20 yuan monthly fee if you don't use the data (you dont have to since you will put it into the box). 大王卡 冰淇淋卡 天神卡 之类的日租卡...

This is how i understand this, is this correct -

Insert various SIM cards into the glocalme box
Plug the glocalme box to router to get internet connection
On your phone, install glocalme app to sync with the glocalme box
Once you get a call / txt from one of the SIMs in the glocalme box, you will also get the call / txt to your phone, provided that the phone has internet access and the glocalme app is running

Nice concept, but not needed for those with virtual phone numbers (e.g., Fongo/freephoneline).

I feel like if this was better written I might understand, but I still have no idea what you are talking about due to the multiple subjects, phones/sims... ie if you have a sim but your phone is here and you want to take a phone down sound, put your sim in this and leave your phone here down in the south and your other phone can use the roaming sim to transfer roaming fees from your one sim to the other, using the phone you want

This looks like a good idea for those that go abroad offer, but the app on the Play store looks like its not in English, and the reviews are saying that the company is starting to ask for monthly payments to use the service so this isn't a one time payment.

Ok so
1. Put Canadian sim inside box
2. Install app on your phone and configure it before you leave.
3. Buy local sim card
4. Enter sim card details (number etc) into app or does the app act like fongo etc?

Thanks.

Can you just get free VoIP number ( ie fongo ..etc) and get your local number forwarded to that VoIP number so that you will receive calls from abroad?? Am I missing something here? Is there something that this box can do better than the free VoIP? I've used free VoIP to call home (Canada) and it worked flawlessly.

You still need data on your phone with the app that's the part I don't see much benefit other than the Chinese text/call part.
I see.

It's alright for when visiting relatives in Asia I suppose.

This can be a use case for me. I always carry two phones - one for work, one for personal. I could use this glocalme box and put both work and personal SIM in there, so that I will just carry 1 phone and leave the box at home.

But its a steep price for me. I'll just keep carrying two phones
