The descriptions are all over the place. Title says it works for 7, 6, 5. But description says 5, 6. Doesnt 8,7,6,5 all use the same battery?

8 CAN use the same battery but you will get a warning that you will lose some of the features. 8 have a new battery with the blue bottom

Thanks! So the 8's new battery would work backwards for 7,6,5 then?

Not a bad deal if these are being used as emergency batteries - but not as reliable backups. I have some aftermarket for other devices that I use when in a pinch, but I find them to be quite unreliable (will show 100% battery up until it basically dies, which will be 60-70% the life of the OEM's).

the hero 7 black can be powered by an external power source through cable while in use, apparently it wont charge the battery while recording though. another consideration

how to remove the battery door so u can still mount it

also noticed this, charger + 1 battery for $15 more than just the standard charger. maybe not worth the $5 savings vs ordering charger + official go pro battery

The newer Hero 8 battery (backwards compatible with Hero 7, 6 and maybe 5) is $25 regular price. How is this a hot deal?

I was getting the same if not better performance than my OEM battery during my Tremblant trip. All I can say is thank god I had 4 because it lasted me for a few hours of continuous recording each day. The charger for this is nice because it won't over charge once full and you can see how many bars are left till full too.

has anyone tested whether the newer hero 8 battery ($25) lasts longer than the older hero 7 battery ($19) in a Hero 7 GoPro?

They're both 1220 mAh, so they should have the same battery life. I believe the new one can support a higher draw though, allowing for some of the more resource intensive chores of the new camera.

Bought the same set for my Hero 7 Black and it arrived a couple of days ago. So far I've put at least one cycle on each of the batteries. My first impressions is that they aren't that bad.

Here are my run times so far. Just static recording (literally hitting record and letting the battery drain out).

I just got back from a walk outside (head mounted) was able to get 54 ish minutes with 1% left on Artman battery #3.

Although I'm tempted to buy genuine batteries if they become a bit cheaper...

Also, please remember that if you sign up for GoPro Plus for USD$49.99/year you get Unlimited online storage, no questions asked replacement insurance and 50% off almost all GoPro accessories. The battery then works out to $10USD.

Also, GoPro does not charge taxes.

I have ordered over $225USD of accessories which only cost me $112.50 so the annual fee has more than paid for itself already!

You need to order extra batteries along with the GoPro from their website as they are not shipping just the batteries

I bought another aftermarket brand for my Hero 5 Black. They worked fine indoors but when I brought them kayaking/skiing, they died really fast. They don't retain power that well either. After 6 months or so they became very unreliable - they would drop from 100% to 80/70% in a matter of seconds after powering on and sometimes videos would fail to record properly.
If my sanity has to go, it is my job to keep its absence to myself. :D

I'm really skeptical about the third party batteries too, but for the price I thought I'd give it a try.
