[Amazon.ca] [Hot] $479.27 (459.99 on ebay) ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQ 27” G-SYNC Compatible Gaming Monitor 165Hz 1440p 1ms IPS

Title says it all, this is a solid monitor at an incredibly low price. I've had two of these on my desk for nearly a year and they're a joy to use.

chadw01 pointed out it's being sold in ebay by NewEgg for $459.99: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/202833206747
Personally I'd prefer Amazon given their return policy, but $20 is $20

Has all the features you could want:
  • 27" Display
  • IPS Panel
  • 1440P
  • G-SYNC Compatible (Based on FreeSync, but certified by Nvidia)
  • 165Hhz refresh rate (overclocks from 144hz)
  • ELMB Sync (blacklight strobing)
  • Stand with swivel, tilt, and pilot

Edit: Added GSync Compatible clarification\
Edit 2: Added in Ebay link from NewEgg

That's a freesync monitor, not gsync.

Edit: https://www.asus.com/ca-en/Displays-Des ... ng-VG27AQ/
"Certified as G-SYNC Compatible, delivering a seamless, tear-free gaming experience by enabling VRR (variable refresh rate) by default."

Double edit: Although I'm not sure it matter too, too much at this point, given Nvidia finally made gsync compatible with AMD gpus...

It is indeed not a genuine, certified G-Sync display, but G-Sync compatible which means it's a FreeSync display that Nvidia has certified as compatible with their cards. There are some drawbacks to not having the expensive GSync processor like missing ULMB. But this monitor has ELMB which does a decent job at the same thing.

I might be overly anal retentive. (/s, I am totally being overly anal retentive here) It just bugs me that all these manufacturers are removing all references to Freesync in their product specifications, even though that's what it is.

Companies will be companies unfortunately.

Is it misleading? Yeah.

Is it less confusing for the average consumer who likely won't appreciate the difference? I guess.

I got this monitor (refurbished) back in May. It's amazing for games but just a heads up that when it goes to sleep it kinda "disconnects" the display. Then when it wakes up it takes about 8 seconds to wake back up and if you have Nvidia G-sync on, it takes an additional 3ish seconds to refresh and detect that. I do have a Samsung 4k monitor connected too that wakes up faster than it so that display always comes on first, then the computer detects this Asus display after the 8 seconds. Then also sometimes, on few occasions, when it goes to sleep the monitor doesn't really turn off, it goes black but there's still a glow. I'm kind of used to this all by now but I'm not complaining too much because once it's up and running it's completely amazing with no issues. Plus I got it refurbished from best buy for $370 after tax. Before I got it I saw other ppl had similar experiences, especially with the 8-second wake-up time. So just warning you guys as it can be something to kind of get used to.

Great gaming monitor. I've been using it since 2019 xmas time, no complaints. It's definitely Certified as G-SYNC Compatible.

Agree with this guy. I'm in the exact same situation. Great monitor but has its flaws. Got it from bestbuy open box. $400 all in. Also got the Samsung 4k 28" monitor from Amazon which was posted on RFD few weeks ago which wakes up faster. One thing I will add is that when it "disconnects" and wakes up from sleep, sometimes the refresh rate goes back to 60hz and I have to manually change it back to 165hz again.

I don't have the slow wake-up issue on HDMI via my Xbox Series X. I think I read that this was only an issue over DisplayPort?

Only have problem if you have more than one monitor.

Not sure about AQ1A, but a AQL1A vs AQ comparison is here:

https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/co ... shold=0.10
The ASUS TUF Gaming VG27AQL1A and the ASUS TUF VG27AQ perform very similarly. The VG27AQL1A has a slightly higher max refresh rate, it gets much brighter in HDR, displays a wide color gamut, and has a quicker response time at 60Hz. However, the VG27AQ has better ergonomics, better out-of-the-box accuracy, and its BFI feature works over a wider frequency range.

It’s not only when you have multiple monitors. I’m running this monitor on its own and it also exhibits the 8-second wake from deep sleep (connected via DP). This supposedly isn’t an issue if you’re connected using HDMI, however you’ll be limited to 144hz vs 165hz.

Got this from /r:

https://www.ninjacrab.com/persistent-windows/

You can also disable sleep on your monitor in Windows settings and use a blank screensaver instead.
