Seems like a good price for one with metal housing.

I am currently using an old router to extend an ethernet line. Will this have significance improvements? Device at the end is a gaming console.

I bought the same one op had shared about 6 months ago. I use it everyday and I’ve had zero issues with it. Great product.

Lifetime warranty and QoS feature on the metal one vs only 2-year warranty on the plastic one.

Why would someone care what a switch looks like? Stuff it in your server closet or basement and forget about it.

To your point, though, the metal one will have better heat dissipation, and will be more robust, if you happen to drop or step on your switches lol

choice is more dictated for use. plastic case has power and ports in back only better for media centers or desktop. the metal has ports in front up with power in back generally in warmer pc server environment .

Great price on the 5 port POE switch too (third party seller though).

edit: Was $30 from Walnut Grove computers... possibly a price error, long gone now.

Is heat dissipation really a concern for these low power green switches? I checked two switches, one plastic, one metal. I can't feel any noticeable heat, but then I'm not maximizing the transfers.

Metal one has better components, that's why it has lifetime warranty.

Great price for 8 port.

Lowest the 8-port Netgear has been was $21.99.

On Amazon, it's usually those two that are the two main options.

Thanks OP,

Bought one to replace a 5 port switch that wasn't cutting it anymore.

Yup. It looks like no longer available from that vendor at that price.

What was the price? Nobody cared to mention.
