Waiting for the lid goes on sale too, but it seems like it never does, at least I never found one …

Thanks OP! I returned the 8q and exchanged it for this one instead since there is only 2 of us.

Is the 6qz good enough for a family of 4? Wondering if it's worth going with the 8 instead.

I have no experience with auto valved IPs. I know the manual ones get finicky over time, but because they're manual, that can be worked around. No idea if the same would be true of auto. For me, if the Duo was able to be had significantly cheaper, it would be a hard sell to spend more on the Nova.

strange they create a separate model just for this minor difference, would you say 80 for this is good deal? i probably should order it today, but i wonder if i should wait till prime day

I've always wanted an 8qt or 10qt to do bigger batches of stuff. I cook primarily for 2 adults, although the younguns will require bigger portions, soon enough. The Nova comes in a 10qt model, too, although apparently Amazon doesn't carry it. I've often thought about getting a 3qt and an 8qt or 10qt -- that would cover both ends of the spectrum. But in the mean time, I use my 6qt every day.

I don't think it's a separate model, so much as it is the newer/replacement model. They may still sell the Duo at various places (since being bought out, Instant Pot has gone hog wild with different models, in different stores exclusively, and all the other retail tricks to drive moar salezzz), but it's essentially obsolete now. Which is why maybe you can find one for a great deal, some old stock or something, in which case it might be a better buy than the Nova. Otherwise, the Nova's kinda the mainstream model now: good features, good pricing, good availability. $80 could be a good price. It's roughly what I paid for my Duo years ago during Prime Day. I dunno if Canada's getting a Prime Day this year...
